Message: | The best boba milk tea I have had is at Old Country Cafe on the corner of Valley and Garfield in Alhambra. They have had that drink for maybe the longest of anyone in LA, at least longer than most places. That's not why they are the best. They are the best because it's not too sweet and you can taste the real tea. The tapioca balls are a perfect texture, nicely chewy, not too mushy but also not underdone. Plus they use a milkshake machine that shakes the cup, not the stirrer. Plus if you drink it there they will refill your cup with milk tea until you feel that you might burst. Plus they are always showing hilarious Taiwanese game shows that you really don't need to speak any Chinese to appreciate. Plus they have excellent Taiwanese food and shaved ice.
Look, I realize this is a ridiculous subject to get all authoritative about, but I will just go with it since I'm on a roll. If you are serious about boba, you should go to the Old Country.
