The best Crab fest I've had was made at home --if you don't mind doing some boiling. I often find ordering boiled crab both expensive, and overcooked or watery and tastless.

We make a "Crab Boil" at least once a year. I buy Zatarains, or other prepared mixes, stick that in some boiling water (I add some extra cayenne) --add some small whole potatoes, onions, fresh corn cob quarters, whole heads of garlic (which you can later smear on some crusty bread). Remove veggies when done, they're delicious. Now boil up some crabs, it doesn't take very long. Bring water to a boil, add the crabs, bring back up to the boil, and lower the heat for 20 minutes or so (depending on crab size).

Invite some friends, break out the newspaper and some crab crackers and you're in business --Voila!

I buy crabs at the 99 Ranch in Van Nuys (but they're all over --if you do a search, you'll find other locations mentioned.) They are rather inexpensive, and they have several different kinds of live crabs, I love Dungeness myself.

Try it, you'll like it.
