Cuban sandwiches, which I highly recommend, are simple tasty sandwiches made with French-style bread and meat -- eg pork, turkey or chicken. If you order a generic Cuban sandwich I THINK you'll get one with a combo of pork and tukey. (Someone else can clarify.) My favorite is the plain roast pork.

Aside from Porto's Bakery, discussed below, and Cafe Tropicale, there's another place on Sunset in Silverlake called El Cochinita (sp?) in the same minimall as Alegria. It's the best, IMO.

Also, there's a Cuban bakery in Silverlake called Carmelo's which is supposed to be something of an institution for the older Cuban community in the area. They may have sandwiches. Anybody been?
