Patak's is the very tip of the iceberg. (and for what itrs worth the most westernized of the pickle brands) go to any self-respecting indian grocer and you should see at least 3 shelves devoted to achars of one sort or other. I have found that the lime and the mango tend to be the most user-friendly for western palates. If you enjoy them you can move on to some of the funkier stuff. they do have lots of oil (its the preservative - you don't eat it)
 
BTW,
achar is such a common accompaniment to indian meals that when you get on indian airlines your meal will likely be served with an individual serving of pickles.
