I will defend Apple Pan down to the last little smudge of ketchup in the left side of my mustache, but if you don't find any crowding outside of the lunch/dinner rushes, we are talking about a different dive. I have waited for a table at 10PM and watched others do so at 11. As for the service, it's what I'd call 'neutral' --friendly, but wary. In my experience, long hang-outs are NOT encouraged.
