there used to be a place..downtown LA...san pedro st maybe...that used to have fried shrimp as their specialty...i think it was called johnnys boat shrimp...it is a parking lot now i believe...when i was a kid..i would go down there and order the 6 shrimp special, with the beans and white steamed rice...delicious...as the shrimp was tender and sweet, with a golden crisp on the outside batter that was not crunchy all the way through...there was always a line out the door..it was really a dive that those in the know would frequent...ahhhh the memories..i have tried numerous fried shrimp of the tempura/cajun/beer batter/h salt (lol) variety, with none matching those of the long gone place......any recs for excellent fried shrimp???? thanks in advance hounds
