My wife and I lived in Long Beach for years and loved it. Long Beach has a great restaurant scene and is a great town to live in... we often think of moving back. I'm sure you love living there.

As far as food recommmendations go, here are a few of them...

Frenchy's Bistro - Authentic French bistro food, very well prepared in a wonderfully cozy atomsphere. Excellent service and food - highly recommended.

Lashers - Classic American cuisine, steaks, chops, seafood, etc... GREAT soups. They have a fabulous award winning clam chowder. Some slightly "down home" and cajun dishes (fried green tomatoes w/andouille sausage). An old converted house right near the corner of Redondo and Broadway.

Jimmy's Fish and Grill - Fresh seafood and great clam chowder - New England and Manhattan style - my wife likes the New England style with a dollop of the Manhattan style added in the middle - I think it's odd, but she loves it. They also have a great fish market that has truly fresh fish every day.

Ferraro's - Italian place on Los Coyotes Diagonal near Palo Verde. Really great authentic Italian food with a deli next door that has real fresh cannoli and other treats. You must try their tomato salad - fantastic. Great pizza, but they don't deliver so if you don't live real close by it can be difficult.

Other thoughts (briefer): Christy's (on broadway), Nico's (on 2nd), Skye Room (can be spotty, but very fun/elegant in an old 50s supper club style), SuperMex (great CHEAP mexican food - small family owned chain), 555 (traditional steakhouse), Domenico's (on 2nd st. - great pizza, try their crushed pepperoni topping), Coffee Cup Cafe (on 4th - GREAT breakfast - very crowded w/long lines on the weekends), L'Opera (Italian - very hit/miss, but when they hit, it's REALLY good, service is very off/on, but often it's due to the fact they're primary clientele are tourists and convention center traffic - become a regular and it can be good), Madison (owned by the same folks a L'Opera, similar experience w/American food), Allegria (Tapas room next to L'Opera on Pine Ave, downtown, also owned by the same people, but very different feel, and good tapas, and great Sangria)... There are TONS of other great places, but these come to the top of my mind right now...

Last but not least. If you like wine, or are starting to, you really must check out The Wine Country on Redondo, near Stearns. Thousands of great bottles of wine, 90%+ of their inventory is wine, and they specialize in finding the GREAT under $10 bottles, and will NOT push you just buy the expensive stuff.

I'm not in any way affiliated with any of the above mentioned establishments other than being a happy, and in some cases a very regular, customer. If you would like, feel free to email me and let me know where specifically what part of LGB you live and/or any specific places you've seen, and I'd be happy to give you more info... Enjoy the area, and hope you like this board - it's really great - I'm pretty new (less than a month) to it as well...
