Message: | We went to Cezanne in Le Merigot Hotel in Santa Monica. Their brunch has been $55.00 for months but this week it said $25.00 in the paper. It is not a buffet anymore. You get choice of appetizer, entree, fresh squeezed juice, coffee or tea and a basket of pastries. More than enough to eat.
The room is beautiful. Starters:The goat cheese salad has a toast with the cheese on it and a salad of endive, radiccio and greens. The ceasar was generous and good quality. The prawns wrapped in Pancetta and basil were plump and perfectly cooked with a pleasant snap. Main Courses:The omlette is made to your instructions and they offer about 10 filling options. They also had eggs Benedict with asparagus and I had Salmon on a bed of fresh sauteed spinach with baby vegetables...the fish was a bit overcooked but the way most people like it and I didn't request it to be underdone. They were freely pouring the juice, I had the sweetest red grapefruit juice. The basket of pastries were as good as any I have had anywhere. Either they make them fresh on site or are bringing them in from somewhere very close. The only complaint was that when I booked the reservation I was told that the meal included both courses and dessert in the price. They have a dessert but but it was $6.00 extra. It was really a moot point because the portions were good size and I couldn't eat one more bite even if it were free. The room is beautiful with good art on the walls and partitions made from very thinly cut marble slabs. The only thing they don't have is an ocean view. Servers were quite efficient too. I can see returning to this place for special occasion brunches. |
