I am in my late 30's -- when I was a kid I remember my parents taking me to the Crab Cooker and I still love going there. (2200 Newport Boulevard, Newport Beach). It is technically in Newport but you drive through Costa Mesa to get there.
 
They still serve on cardboard plates and their cheesy potatoes can't be beat. I love getting the steamer clams and whatever fish is fresh that day.
