I'm new to chowhound, but hope you'll consider my contribution. I'm the guy that all my friends call for the best eating suggestions and none of them have ever thought me wrong.
 
I love calamari fritti and one of the best plates I've had is at a small joint in Lomita (South bay area) called Bonello's. The fritti is on the appetizer list and looks pricey at 10.95, but the portion is huge - tender - and comes with a spicy marinara.
 
Bonello's is at 24503 Narbonne Ave
 
They also make an outstanidng NY style pie (pizza).
