Last night we went to Lunaria. 10351 Santa Monica Blvd Los Angeles (310) 282-8870

I have always felt that this is one of the nicer restaurants in Los Angeles. It is not too expensive with Appetizers under $10.00 many much less, and entrees all under $30.00 but many under $20.00. They
have a number of wines by the glass for about $7.00. The reason I am writing this is because I was there last night and the place was nearly empty. The waiters are all very competent but John is stellar.
I would be very upset if this place closed down. At 9:00 the wall opens and it is also a Jazz club. (Sometimes 9:30). That is also fun.

Last night I started with the Fish Soup with a toast topped with Rouille and shredded cheese...amazingly good and I have had this dish dozens of times over the years. My wife had the Warm Goat Cheese and Potato Salad, also great, served with diced tomato and Frisee. It is one of my favorite salads in the city. My Entree was Veal Stew (it is called something fancier on the menu but I forgot...the menu changes
every day). The veal was tender enough to cut with a fork served in a mild but enjoyable brown sauce with strips of Yellow Bell Pepper and Green Olives and Chive Mashed Potatoes topped with Oven Dried
Tomatoes. I thoroughly enjoyed it. My wife had the Farfalla with Asparagus and Sausage in a Marinara Sauce. She asked them to leave off the Sausage which they happily did. During the course of the meal
I tried by the glass a Bourdough (sp?) and 2 different Merlots, I could tell they were a bit young but quite enjoyable with notes of good oak and nice fruit not too tannic.

I made sure to save room for dessert. We like the Warm Chocolate Souffle Tart. It is served with a Blueberry Compote and Whipped Cream. This is also perfectly molten in the center and made with very
good chocolate. The berrys are a nice addition and the whipped cream is not icky sweet. We shared that.

I have many other favorites too. The Smoked Salmon Tart, Ahi Tuna Carpaccio, Lamb Chops, pretty much any fish and the apple tart, or lemon crepe suzette dessert. I really recommend this restaurant and
think that you will like it as much as I do. They are so gracious and professional, none of the snobby indifference that is so prevalent at all of the hot new places.
