command information

Command information provides the defense leadership with the ability to speak directly to military service members and their families. Command information - whether it is delivered in person, through military world wide web sites, over American Forces Radio and Television, or in military publications - is the clear, accurate, and unfiltered voice of military leadership.

press serviceAFIS operates a Press Service which provides defense news and information articles to over 900 military newspapers. The articles are also available to a worldwide audience from the Press Service web site.

The Press Service also publishes special web feature reports on a broad range of military topics. An example is the web site, Countering the Anthrax Threat, which provides service members with information on the DoD anthrax immunization rogram.

AFIS operates one of the largest television and radio networks in the world - the American Forces Radio and Television network (AFRTS). The AFRTS network delivers radio and television command information programming to service members and their families who are stationed overseas or at sea.

Each week the AFRTS NewsCenter located in Alexandria, VA, produces 11 radio and 5 television military news reports. These reports provide service members with timely information on defense missions, policies and programs.spotsThe television reports are inserted throughout the day in the CNN Headline News program which is broadcast over the AFRTS network. To see a television report, go to this Basic Training web special. To listen to a radio report, go to the AFRTS Radio News.

Since AFIS is not allowed to broadcast advertising over its AFRTS network, it produces a variety of command information spots for airing in place of the commercials. These spots provide information on a variety of topics to include safety, health care, family services.

These topics are also covered by Billboard, a monthly single-issue poster series for use by military units.
