Today on "Call for Help," Brett Larson shows you a handy application that'll blow out the cobwebs and help keep your Mac nice and fresh. Spring Cleaning, from Aladdin Systems, is a great tool for clearing out the clutter that can slow down your system's performance.
If you have a bunch of programs you never use, Spring Cleaning can get rid of them, including all of the resource files that can get scattered throughout your machine. If you have empty folders lying around, Spring Cleaning can toss those, too. Are there aliases that point to nothing? Spring Cleaning will find them so you can point them in the right direction, or get rid of them if the program is gone.
Spring Cleaning can also help keep your Internet files under control. It'll clean out your Web cache, where you temporarily store recently visited websites, and get rid of cookies that might be compromising your security online. If you finish your cleaning and realize you threw out the baby with the bath water, you can use the restore function to return everything to the way it was.
Spring Cleaning requires a PowerPC running OS 8.6 or above. The OS X version has a few features unavailable to the Classic version, including AccessMonitor, which checks to see when files and folders were last used. To learn more about Spring Cleaning or to purchase the program for $49.99, visit Aladdin Systems.
