Blogger, a free Internet utility, is a Web-based tool for creating a type of website known as a Web log or blog. Blogger.com recently received a financial shot in the arm when Trellix, a company that specializes in Web development tools, agreed to license Blogger.com's technology in its upcoming products.
Blogs keep you in the loop
For the uninitiated, a blog is a highly personal website that can be easily updated. Blogs usually consist of short or long "Dear Diary"-like comments with links to news articles, websites, discussions on a particular topic, and other blogs. Maintaining a blog is akin to publishing an online diary and blogs are steadily gaining in popularity.
Businesses can also take advantage of blogs, which provide a central place for team members to offer ideas or to comment on a group-related project. Group members can also add links that are related to the project. There's even a PDA-based blog currently being developed.
The earliest blogs, circa 1998 or so, were built by techies who knew how to write code for adding links and automating the publishing process. Although personal webpages have been around for some time, blogging is a burgeoning hobby with zealous followers. It's become so popular that a recent contest called the Bloggies handed out kudos and $20 awards for the best blog in 20 different categories.
