"There is no such thing as Pilipino literature." Fourteen years ago, these words started a [r]evolution.

maganda magazine was created as an outlet and forum for Pilipino and Pilipino-American artists and writers. It is our legacy and our monument to leaders and revolutionaries both past and present. It is more than sheets of bound and printed paper. maganda lives and breathes and grows with every blossoming mind, every new face, every spark of inspiration. our theme, [r]evolutions, is emblematic of the changes and revolts instigated not only by the artistic community, but by Pilipino people as a whole.

For me, the concept of ‘maganda’ is a catalyst that starts a fire in my belly and a twitching in all of my extremities. It is a process of inspiration which I think many people can relate to: the excitedly uneasy stomach, the rapidly beating heart, the incomparable euphoria of creation, the rush (however ephemeral) of producing something perfect and beautiful and immortal. maganda.

I am often asked "So, what is maganda?" I’d like to answer with "What isn’t?" It is community, the bond of shared stories and shared pain, the collaboration in an uncertain but limitless future. It is a distillation of the most bitter tears and the sweetest love. maganda waits inside each and every one of us, gestating in a sea of dreams and possibility.
