Police said they will spend about $1,700 from a $16,000 U.S. Department of Justice grant to fund 40 hours of extra traffic enforcement between Nov. 25 and Dec. 8. Officers will be paid overtime primarily to enforce seat belt and drunken-driving laws, said Assistant Police Chief Steve Casstevens.

Stephen Retsky, 48, of the 3600 block of Chicago Road, Steger, was charged Monday with disorderly conduct and battery after he walked into an office in the 1500 block of North Rand Road and tried to inappropriately touch a woman, police said.

Two briefcases containing diamonds valued at $5,000 and jewelry tools worth $2,000 were reported stolen from a jewelry appraiser's car Friday outside Lion Video, 427 S. Bartlett Rd.
