If Asa Lovejoy had won a coin toss in 1845, I'd be writing this story about Boston, Ore.; and my friend, Steve Johnson, whose story (co-written by his wife, Louise Kiernan) accompanies this one, would, I suppose, be telling you about its Massachusetts namesake.
