Also, I just discovered that Channelfly.com has got RealVideo footage of the gig supporting Grandaddy at the Shepherds Bush Empire last November. So if you haven't watched it already, go and do so now!!

And if that wasn't enough, the Session In Scotland site has got footage from the gig at the Lemon Tree in Aberdeen in March - go here!

Tuesday 24th July 2001

Sorry for the lack of updates over the past couple of months, but I have been locked away in a protective bunker, making this site all new and sparkly! I hope you like it!

Right, here's what's going on in the world of Lowgold:

Currently Lowgold are living their lives as international popstars and are playing a few of the festivals around Europe. See the gigs section for info on the dates and locations.

Beauty Dies Young is being re-released on August 20th, on 2 CDs and 7", with all new B-sides and a brand new video. One of the B-sides will be a reworking of the classic track 'Can't Say No', from the 108 EP, and there will also be a version of BDY remixed by Graham Coxon!

And in terms of the site, well there are all sorts of new bits and pieces all over the place...have fun finding them!

Wednesday 9th May

Sorry it's been a while since the last bit of news. Here's what's been going on:

Counterfeit was released the last week and entered the charts at number 52.

Another single from Just Backward Of Square will be released in July, although it hasn't yet been decided which track this will be.

Lowgold will be supporting the Undertones in Dublin at the Trinity University Summer Ball this Friday (11th May)

Lowgold will be playing at quite a few festivals this summer, including some European festivals. See the Tour Dates section for more info.

Spanish radio station "Radio 40" awarded Lowgold with Best International Single for "Beauty Dies Young"

Lowgold need your help!

I got this little request in an email from Miles today:

"we have had to return a keyboard to its original owner - the keyboard in question is the little one darren plays on beauty dies young (pretty vital then) - it's called a "casio VL tone" and it's the kinda thing people have knocking around in toyboxes from when they were wee. top dollar or a showering with lowgold merchandise (ahem) would be awarded to any benevolent 'fan'."

So if you have such a keyboard, or know someone with one, (here's a picture so you know what you're looking for), then get in touch with me (paul_kelly@btinternet.com) so we can sort out this little problem!

If you've got MTV2 then you'll have probably seen the excellent video for Counterfeit by now, but if not then here's the detail: It's the first Lowgold video to actually feature the band - the premise of the video is a tv show called "Evening Songs Of My Life" where a pianist plays and sings Counterfeit while the band are the crew - Darren plays the camerman, Dan does lighting, Miles directs and Simon is the floor manager.
The video is currently at number 10 in the MTV2 Most Wanted Chart, which you can catch at 11 every morning and then at 10 most evenings. You can vote for Counterfeit at the MTV2 website

Also, some festival news - Lowgold will be playing at the Dour festival in Belgium on Friday 6th July and then T in The Park on Saturday 7th July.

And finally, there's an interview with Darren in this months edition of Total Guitar magazine - available from all good newsagents!

A bit of bad news for Lowgold's European fans - the dates supporting Coldplay in Paris, Bordeux and Madrid have all been cancelled due to Chris from Coldplay suffering from voice exhaustion. Get well soon Chris!

Friday 23rd March 2001

Yeah, I know it's been a while since the last update but I just haven't had a chance for the last few weeks. Oh well, all things come to those who wait:

I've added the lyrics to most of the tracks on the album, a couple of pictures from the press, another review of JBOS and I've updated the discography.

A few more tour dates have been announced recenently, for the end of April. These include Sheffield, Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle. See tour dates for more details.

The next single to be released will be Counterfeit, out on 23rd April. It will be released on 2 cds, with 'Whatever You Think, You're Wrong', 'Atlantic Pacific', 'Remission Time' and 'She Darked The Sun' making up the b-sides. Counterfeit has already been put on the xfm a-list!

Lowgold played at the MTV party in Dublin on St. Patricks Day and the performance can be seen on Wednesday night at 11pm on Dublin Brand: New.

Also on tv is 'Teachers' on Channel 4, which can be seen on Wednesdays at 10pm. The Lowgold track 'Can't Say Now' is included in the soundtrack and is on the cd that accompanies the series. It's out on monday 26th but you can pre-order it from the channel 4 shop right now.

I've had a few people asking when Just Backward Of Square will be released in their neck of the woods...well all you European bods can rejoice now as it'll be out on monday too!

There's an interview with Dan in this months edition of Guitar Magazine...I'll type it up when I get the chance.

Sunday 4th February 2001

"At last!" I hear you cry - "An update!". Yeah, sorry it's been a while but uni gets in the way a bit! Anyway, you'll probably all know that Mercury was released last Monday, so if you haven't got it already, go and buy it now! then you've got another week to save up for the debut album 'Just Backward Of Square', which is released on Monday 12th February. On the same day there will be a Lowgold showcase on the Radio 1 Evening Session.

The Grandaddy tour is now almost coming to a close, but don't worry if you didn't get to see them this time around, as there will be a big headline tour in March. All the dates are listed in the tour dates section.

Lowgold have been getting round in the press quite a bit recently, I've added three of these interviews to my brand-spanking-new interviews section. Oh, and thank you to the good people at the NME and Sunday Times for recommending my site!

Mercury and JBOS have been getting good reviews in the press, I've added a few of them to the reviews section.

Wednesday 3rd January 2001

Hope you all had a great christmas and new year!

You may be interested to hear that Map Records have cd promo copies of both the album and 'Mercury', and also the ultra rare '108 ep'. They're not cheap though, but if Father Christmas was generous with the cash then this would be a good way of spending it! The website is here.

Mercury is now on the Radio 1 Playlist, yay! Have a look here if you don't believe me.

Some of the dates for the March headline tour have appeared on various ticket selling websites - I've put what I know on the tour dates page.

Monday 18th December 2000

Okay, I'm home for the xmas holidays now so hopefully the updates will be quite frequent over the next few weeks. To start with, I've added reorganized the image gallery and have added some scans of the various lowgold bits and pieces that I have acquired.

You may have heard rumours about Lowgold being support for Grandaddy in January/February next year...well it's all true! See the tour dates page for all the details.

There will then be another headline tour of the uk sometime around the release of the album....which should be out on the 12th of February.

Saturday 2nd December 2000

Huzzah! Finally some new stuff from me! Sorry it's been so long since the last update, but I've been totally occupied with the university thang for the last couple of months. Updates should come more frequently for now on, I promise. Anyway, here's what's been going on and what will be going down in the world of Lowgold:

Lowgold are just coming to the end of their second hedline tour of the UK, with a couple of dates left to go. A highly entertaining/informative tour diary is being kept over at the official site, check it out. I attended the Leeds date of the tour and had a fab time. Big thanks to Miles for the biscuits. Pictures were taken and should appear just as soon as my computer and scanner are reunited. If you have any scans of pictures/setlists/etc from the tour then I would be very grateful if you could send them to me for the picture gallery...you will of course have the honour of having your name appearing in glorious text.

The next release from the band will be the single "Mercury", available on CD (NUD53CD) and 7" (NUD53S) on the 29th January 2001. The title track will be backed by two other tracks - "Eddie Lejeune" and "If People Were Vinyl".

Hot on the hells of the single will be the debut album, "Just Backward Of Square", which will be released in February.

And as if that wasn't enough, there will be another tour of the UK in March!

that was the news. thank you for listening.

Saturday 8th October 2000

Well, I'm off to start my life as a lazy university student tomorrow, so I don't know yet how often I'm going to be able to update the site. Do not despair though, as Marc's site and Nude Records should be able to keep you up to date with all your essential Lowgold news.

peace and lowgold.
paul.

Tuesday 3rd October 2000

Some bits and pieces....
This month's Select magazine has an interview with the band and a track from the forthcoming album 'Just Backward Of Square' on the cover disc. Speaking of which, the album will be released sometime next year...there has been no confirmation of an exact release date yet.
There's also a track on the current edition of the Rocksound magazine cover disc, 'The Feelings' - taken from The 108 EP.

The tour supporting Coldplay kicked off in Cambridge last night, and will finish on the 23rd in London. The dates are all in the tour dates section of this site. If you have any reviews, pictures or setlists that you would like to contribute to this site, then send 'em here

Oh, and some excellent news for everyone, especially those who couldn't get petrol for the shows last month or tickets for the coldplay shows this month - there will be another Lowgold headline tour in November! Details will be available here as soon as everything is confirmed.
