Duke's first week at No. 1 was a rousing success.

Alana Beard had 22 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and five steals to power the Blue Devils (2-0) over No. 2 Tennessee 76-55 Sunday in the inaugural women's Jimmy V Classic.

``This was a great opportunity for us to show the nation that we were here to play,'' Duke Coach Gail Goestenkors said. ``This hopefully proves to people that not only were we here to play, but we're here to stay.''

Tennessee (1-1) committed 23 turnovers for the game and shot 21 percent in the second half.

Louisiana State 93, SE Louisiana 52

HAMMOND, La. -- The No. 3 Tigers (2-0) went on a 16-6 run early in the second half and cruised to victory over the Lady Lions (1-1).

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Natalie Ritchie made four three-pointers and scored 20 points to lead the No. 13 Lady Raiders (1-1) past the Huskies (1-1).

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Jessica Sell scored 20 points to guide the 15th-ranked Tar Heels (2-0) over the Lady Bucs (0-2).

MINNEAPOLIS -- Lindsay Whalen scored 26 points as the No. 16 Golden Gophers (2-0) defeated the Highlanders (1-1).

BOSTON -- Amber Jacobs scored 26 points to push the No. 19 Eagles (1-0) past the Saints (2-2).
