President Bush to Nominate Coats as Ambassador of the United States to the Federal Republic of Germany

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate Daniel R. Coats as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Federal Republic of Germany.

"Dan Coats has served the nation well in the military, the House of Representatives and the United States Senate.  His defense and national security experience will be an asset in maintaining our strong ties with Germany.  I know Dan will be an outstanding representative of the Unites States," said President Bush.

Coats currently serves as Special Counsel at Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard, McPherson and Hand in Washington, D.C.  He served in the U. S. House of Representatives from 1981 to 1989 and was appointed to the U.S. Senate in 1988.  He represented the State of Indiana in the U.S. Senate from 1989 to 1999.  A veteran of the U.S. Army, he is a graduate of Wheaton College and Indiana University School of Law.
