Orlando, home of Disney World, Sea World and the Universal Studios theme parks is getting a new kind of theme park - one that focuses on slums, according to the Washington Times.
Habitat for Humanity, the organization that helps build houses for low-income families, is creating a park at its headquarters, that will feature "mock slums" from around the world. Visitors will be able to tour slums from Africa, Asia and Central America and then see the types of houses that Habitat builds in those same regions.
The new "Global Village & Discovery Center" is expected to attract 70,000 visitors a year. Habitat founder, Millard Fuller believes that seeing the difference Habitat can make will help bring in volunteers to the organization. |
