PREP FOOTBALL

Edgewater wins, takes on Dade next
After beating Deerfield Beach, Edgewater will play a state final against a Dade team for the second straight year.
Star Deerfield Beach quarterback Brent Schaeffer had never lost a game on his home field, and when that moment finally came Friday night, he didn't know how to react.

MIAMI DOLPHINS

  DOLPHINS NOTEBOOK
Thomas, T. Bowens remain questionable
Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas (hip) and defensive tackle Tim Bowens (calf) were limited in practice Friday and remain questionable for Sunday's game at New England, although coach Dave Wannstedt said both are improving.

FLORIDA MARLINS

  Pudge return looks `bleak'
Friday's talk settled only this: The gap between what the Marlins have offered and what their free agent catcher wants is so wide both sides are preparing to move on.
Marlins general manager Larry Beinfest and Scott Boras, the agent for free agent catcher Ivan Rodriguez, said Friday they were not hopeful they could agree on a deal before midnight Sunday, when the world champions' window to negotiate with the playoff MVP closes.

FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY

  FAU brings high hopes
Amid talk of Northern Arizona's altitude advantage, the ability to go to the air -- and stop the Lumberjacks' passing game, too -- could elevate the Owls tonight.
Leading up to tonight's Division I-AA playoff quarterfinal, coaches and players from 13th-ranked Florida Atlantic and 16th-ranked Northern Arizona have enjoyed a good bit of gamesmanship.

UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI

UM vs. FIU: Trying to rule the big city
One of the proudest moments in FIU's basketball history is when the Golden Panthers upset UM. They try again tonight.
Every once in a while you'll still see one as you drive around Miami -- a bumper sticker that reads: ''FIU Men's Basketball. City Champs. 1992.'' The Golden Panthers are 1-7 against the University of Miami Hurricanes going into tonight's game at the Convocation Center, and that one win was a biggie for the FIU program.

MIAMI HEAT

  Frantic rally fails
Miami fights back from 19 down, but late gaffes and a last-second miss by Lamar Odom seal loss.
A furious comeback and bizarre last minute ended with Lamar Odom at halfcourt, his fists in the air. Except Odom wasn't celebrating a win. He was lamenting the fact his potential game-tying shot rimmed out as the final seconds ticked off the clock.

FLORIDA PANTHERS

  PANTHERS NOTEBOOK
Dudley, Panthers eyeing Robinson?
Panthers interim coach and general manager Rick Dudley said he talked to two people about interviewing for the Panthers job in the near future.

TITLE SATURDAY
Kansas State vs. Oklahoma/LSU vs. Georgia

Stoops fondly recalls Kansas State days
Though long removed from his time as an assistant for Kansas State coach Bill Snyder during the program's remarkable turnaround, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said he treasures his time there.
K-State may need a perfect game against Oklahoma
