Asiaby Matt Thursday 20th November 2003 Bed Bugs!Asia : South East : Malaysia : Penang Island : GeorgetownI travelled to Georgetown on Penang Island with Andrew, a Canadian who I had been trekking with in Cameron Highlands. On arriving in our 'recomended' place of stay, he discovered Bed Bugs in his mattress. At this he got really depressed, while I sat feeling slightly bemused at our luck. Neither of us were particularly willing to stay - but the owner changed the mattresses, and [Travel Journal] The route to Cameron Highlands is not an easy one, there are 653 corners traversed by the rickety buses in order to get there, and many find this too much for the stomach to take. Luckily I had a semi-decent bus, and the seven hour journey from KL had caused me to stop caring about the corners and the fear or travel sickness that they are [Travel Journal] My time in Kuala Lumpur wasn't the best time I've had. In fact it was quite depressing, stressful and caused me to doubt whether I was quite ready to be travelling in Asia at all. The city itself on first impressions was busy, dirty and smelt bad, and I was unhappy bing there. Partially, I know this is because I'm a 'country lad', but also [Travel Journal] I left Singapore on the Friday for Melaka, a large town around four hours away by bus. Melaka, although at first seems to be really busy, it isn't. It's just the badly laid out roads and the poor driving that gives it the impression of activity. On the Wednesday, I explored, managing to find hundreds of enormous shopping centres. There seemed literally to be a mall on every street corner, if not more. [Travel Journal] My journey began smoothly - made it to the airport, boarded the plane, and had a semi comfortable trip - except fo the fact that I sat next to two people who did not go to the toilet once on a twelve hour trip. However arrivng in Singapore it fell apart. Finding the correct bus was easy enough but due to the heat, the size of [Travel Journal] Map of the Macau (the places we went). Lamma Island Our Lamma “excursion” started at 10am. We, (Rick and myself) left the house at 10am to catch a bus to get to Shatin then take the KCR to Kowloon Tong to get to Central…after many changes of transportation, we finally legged it to the pier. We had 20 seconds before the ferry left from pier 4 but we were still at pier 6. Out of breath [Travel Journal] The map. The red line is where we went on the first day and the blue line is the way we left..by taxi! Going camping was a very different thing for me, I had never done such a thing and walking down to Sai Keng (the village I live) seemed very tiring for me let alone walk 8 hours a day with tiny breaks in between. Something which really annoyed me [I think Rick will agree with btw, Rick is my boyfriend.] is that we woke up [Travel Journal] |
