Milan is beautiful and has many other sights but I remember this Gallery for 3 main things: 1. Got a haircut nearby before going in a tiny little hairdresser in a side alley before going but one of the best cuts I've had anywhere. 2. Leanardos "Portrait of a Musician" there is some dispute as to whether it is really a Da Vinci but very intricate small [Travel Journal]

Small digression from postings about Toronto - when I travelled more to Europe one thing that struck me was all the references to Hemmingway - where he slept, ate and wrote etc. One such location was the Dorchester hotel on Park Lane, NE side of High Park. There is this bookstore on the north side of Cambridge Circus I always go to when I was in London [Travel Journal]

The Boat....
The Boat....
Well, this is the boat I'm on. Used to be called Tyco II. Serious stuff.
Well, I'm in. Felt like the proverbial spare part a lot of the time, not wanting to touch anything in case the guy 100ft (yes, 100ft!) up the mast suddenly came crashing down to the deck. Did my fair share of grinding, which comes with the territory when you're built like a rugby player. How do you think that guy got up the mast? Learnt a bit [Travel Journal]

Well, what I thought was going to be a chilled day, meeting the skipper and crew for a look around the boat, followed by a pie and a pint, has turned into two days of sail training! Got to be at Cowes ready to set sail by 10am tomorrow, which meant a lot of running about for my dear old mum yesterday, collecting foul weather gear for [Travel Journal]

Well, I've just signed up to help deliver a 60ft Volvo racing yacht from Cowes to the Canaries, non-stop. It'll either be the best 8-10 days of my life, or I'll never want to see another boat again as long as I live. Watch this space. [Travel Journal]

I got up this morning around 7am. I have neglected to do laundry until now (except a few pairS of socks I washed my dancing on in the bath tub w/ shampoo as I showered in Lyon), so I took it all down to the laundry room, went up took a shower, ate breakfast, and it just finished the wash, so I have another hour and a [Travel Journal]

I have learned the true difference between vacationing and touring. I can barely walk my legs are so sore. My feet sting with pain, and my ankles each have matching bleeding blisters from my most comfortable boots! I took a minute to understand why and mapped out what I walked today (a typical day thus far) it's somewhere between 12 and 15 miles, plus standing around in [Travel Journal]

it always helps, a single thought of going up, gasping for breath, carrying all gear on your back, feeling your body when even a single thought seems to add some extra grams to all your always-excessively stuffed backpack. and when it actually happens i always find myself utterly happy so this is the remedy. mountains. and i have sensed that coming. this longing and desperate need to [Travel Journal]
