The Rice Girls are a unique and innovative group of Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center peer educators -- our "Ambassadors of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Education" -- who perform at local clubs and events, conduct outreach, distribute condoms and add humor, fun, glamour and pizzazz to community education and safer sex messages.

Now in its fourth generation, the group includes: Jazmine; Minute; Long Grain; and Rice Rice-a-Roni, the San Francisco Treat. Each member of the Rice Girls has her own unique personality which she uses to help communicate important messages.

The Rice Girls -- who began as a parody of the British group The Spice Girls -- have been lypsyncing and dancing their way across the San Francisco Bay area performing their Rice, Rice, Baby Tour -- you have seen them at the Asian & Pacific Islander Stage at San Francisco Pride 2000, Oakland Pride, the N'Touch, Divas, the Castro Street Fair, Star Search Karaoke, Club Asia and wherever condom use needs to be demonstrated!

So, join the Rice Girls at their next event -- check out our Upcoming Events calendar -- and introduce yourself. After their performance, the Rice Girls always work the crowd, so come and speak to them about staying healthy and how to get the HIV test.

The Rice Girls have landed between the covers of several Bay Area magazines and newspapers and were identified among the 99 People to Watch in 1999 by Metropolitan magazine. On July 31, 2000, the Rice Girls were honored with the "Help Is On the Way VI Community Award" by the Richmond/Ermet AIDS Foundation.
