TOP TRAVEL STORY
The Miami Herald

  A reign begins
Superlatives appropriate for Cunard's newest ship
I rode a city across the sea, crossing the Atlantic Ocean in the world's newest, biggest and most expensive passenger ship. The maiden voyage of Cunard Line's $780-million Queen Mary 2 may have been the most anticipated cruising event since the release of Titanic, the movie. But did it live up to the Entertainment Tonight hype?

  Travel is Fun

MORE TRAVEL FEATURES

Active and innovative stops add fun new dimensions to cruising
As travelers become more demanding, cruise lines adapt to new styles with gusto.
When I was a kid, my parents returned from their annual cruise vacation fat, stiff and lethargic. What else could they expect from seven days of stuffing their bellies, lying prone on deck chaises and using their minds for nothing more taxing than selecting a dinner wine and bartering for coconut monkey sculptures and straw hats at pier-side markets?

What's happening in ... Melbourne, Australia
In the 19th century, Melbourne was called the Manchester of the South. Now the multicultural city is more like a Milan beyond Europe, the art and design capital of Australia, with a vigorous cultural life, imaginative and prolific in architecture, theater, music and the visual arts. It also offers plenty of good food, sporting events and cafe life.

Ruins, reefs and rain forests: These highlands aren't just for the birds
Though its a quick hop from South Florida, this Central American region is largely unknown.
We are driving past lush pineapple, orange and cacao groves on a dirt road in the rain forest, when a man with a machete suddenly blocks the road. He raises the blade, puts a red fruit down on a tree stump, and lops it in half.

From vrrrooming to crooning, new reasons to sail
THEMES AT SEA Spend your afternoon watching a cooking demonstration by famed chef Charlie Palmer, sample food-and-wine tastings, then head ashore to root out the freshest local produce.
