APF Funds Donor-designated endowment funds allow donors to make a special project or specific area of study the beneficiary of distributions from their funds. Listed below are funds that are administered by the APF in keeping with the donors' wishes. Dr. Maurice and Shirley Abrams Fund Originally established to support the library at the Manuel Glazier Institute of the History of Medicine in Jerusalem, income from the fund is currently used for the general support of the APF. Dr. M. Adler Fund Income from the fund is used for the general support of the APF. Mrs. D. Apfel Fund Income from the fund is used for the general support of the APF. Dr. Manuel M. Glazier Fund Dr. Glazier established this fund to provide income for the general support of the APF. Dr. Manuel M. and Helen Glazier Fund This fund, established by Peter and Penny Glazier, Manny and Helen Glazier's son and daughter in law, funds new APF initiatives, programs, and projects that are specific to the History of Medicine. Each year, the fund underwrites KOROT, The Israel Journal of the History of Medicine and Science. L. and E. Golden Fund Income from the fund is used for the APF's Fellowship programs. Hodgkin Grave Fund Established by Dr. and Mrs. Edward Kass, the income from this fund is used to maintain Thomas Hodgkin's gravesite in Jaffa. Hodgkin, a Quaker, had a remarkable friendship with Moses Montefiore (1784-1885) and acted as his personal physician on numerous visits to the Middle East including Palestine. The Hodgkin grave is located in a small cemetery adjacent to the Church of Scotland School in Jaffa. Edward H. Kass Memorial Fund for Medical Research Established in 1991 to honor one of the APF's most distinguished presidents, the fund provides support for outstanding medical research projects in Israel that will have a significant impact upon Israeli medicine. This year, the fund awarded its 10th research grant to Dr. Benjamin Dekel from the Department of Immunology at the Wiezmann Institute. His research will focus on transplantation of mammalian metanephroi as a novel therapeutic approach to the treatment of renal injury. Dr. Lewis & Stella Kaufman Fund Originally established to support the library at the Manuel Glazier Institute of the History of Medicine in Jerusalem, income from the fund is currently used for the general support of the APF. Richard Klitzberg Oncology Fund Established by Richard Klitzberg in 1999, the income from the fund supports oncology research grants. Dr. Isaac Knoll Research Fund Established by Dr. Knoll, the income from the fund will be used to support research grants in Israel. Lefkovits Fellowship Fund & the A&F Lefkovitz Fund Established by A. Lefkovits, father of longtime APF Board member Dr. Albert M. Lefkovitz, the income from these funds is used for APF's Fellowship programs. Dr. David Milliken Fund Established by his wife Sarah Milliken, the income from this fund supports Israeli medical libraries. Mae Rabinowitz Fund This fund, established with the assistance of Dr. Isaac Knoll, supports APF's Fellowship programs. Solomon Hirsh Nursing Education Fund Established in memory of his father by Dr. Richard N. Hirsh, the fund created a legacy that supports Israeli nurses for short-term nursing training in the United States and Canada. Dr. Hirsh & Dora Rosenfeld Fund A dedicated Board member and Vice President of the APF for many years, Dr. and Mrs. Rosenfeld created this legacy to fund programs that benefit medicine in Israel. Dr. Isadore Rosenfeld Visiting Lectureship Fund Established in 1987 by Dr. Rosenfeld, the income from this fund supports visiting lectureships in Israel in the field of cardiology. Dr. Keith Schneider Fund Income from the fund is used for the APF's Fellowship programs. Hy Winer Fund for Cancer Research in Israel Established in his memory by his widow and children, income from this fund is to support cancer research in Israel. |
