    Spring Movies

Posted by on Saturday, March 29, 2003 9:30 PM

Have you seen any movies lately? Want to find out which movies are worth checking out? Post your reviews here!
The Hours is a great movie. It has been nominated for many academy awards and have actually won some Oscars. It's a movie about 3 different women. The movie can be quite confusing and mysterious at times. This is a movie for people who like to think. There were women kissing and gay love relationships.

    Chick Flicks
By NaAi on Monday, March 31, 2003 5:16 PM
Just wanted to suggest some great Lesbian movies from my DVD collection...

    Bound (1996)
Cast: Jennifer Tilly, Gina Gershon, Joe Pantoliano
Synopsis: Jennifer Tilly plays Violet, a gangster's mistress who wants out of the mob life. A live action Betty Boop (all soft curves and a sweet, breathy voice), Violet may seem just another incarnation of the beautiful, yet dim brunette Tilly has played before (as in her Oscar-nominated role in BULLETS OVER BROADWAY). But it turns out that Violet is smarter and tougher than she lets on--and meets her match in Corky (Gina Gershon), the sexy, sapphic ex-con next door. Joe Pantoliano rounds out the impeccable cast as Ceasar, the brutish boyfriend and intended fall guy in Corky and Violet's eventual plan to steal the mob's money. Whether the plan works, and whether the two can trust each other enough to see it through, is played out perfectly in this sharp, satisfying neo-noir that pays tribute to the genre, while turning it on its head.

    Better Than Chocolate (1999)
Cast: Karyn Dwyer, Christina Cox, Wendy Crewson, Peter Outerbridge
Synopsis: "Better Than Chocolate" is a light hearted comedy about the lives of queer folks in Vancouver. Maggie (Karyn Dwyer) and Kim (Christina Cox) meet and quickly fall in lust as Kim quickly sketches Maggie on the street. Kim is a wandering artist and has no place to stay so logically she stays with Maggie. Maggie doesn't really have a place either but the solution arises when she sublets and apartment. The woman subletting is apparently some kind of sex worker, this being important as it lends itself to some jokes later on in the movie. Maggie's bigger problem comes when her mother decides to bring herself and Maggie's brother and live with Maggie. Deeply in the closet, Maggie juggles her new love with the secrecy in her family.

    Lost and Delirious (2000)
Cast: Piper Perabo, Jessica Paré, Mischa Barton
Synopsis: Mouse Bradford (Misha Barton, "The Sixth Sense"Wink has just arrived at boarding school. Her two senior roommates, the striking, sharp-witted Paulie (Piper Perabo, "Coyote Ugly"Wink and the charming and beautiful Tori (Jessica Paré, "Stardom"Wink, quickly adopt the homesick girl. When Paulie and Tori are found to be lovers, Mouse, caught in the role of accomplice and confessor, is left torn between her two friends.

    Enjoy!!!

    Kissing Jessica Stein
By Admin on Wednesday, April 02, 2003 10:30 PM
If you want to check out a funny bicurious girls movie, check out Kissing Jessica Stein. I had a good laugh in this one. But I also found the girl who Jessica Stein was experiment with very pretty and hot! Helen, in the movie, had very seductive eyes. Ahhh.. I also loved the way to dressed in some occassions (not too femine and a bit tomboyish, yet sexy still). Anyhow, this is the first good lesbian/bisexual movie I've seen with a happy ending for women's relationship and friendship...although I did wish that Jessica and Helen were together for good at last, but too bad it didn't work out. Anyhow, good ending! Good for some laugh, too! ^_^

p.s. - Now, I'll have to check out some of the other movies you've mentioned. I bought a DVD kit so I can watch movie in my room. hehehe.. sneaky, hah? Wink My family doesn't know... shhhh... Let's keep this as a secret.

    Any more movies??
By techy on Monday, April 07, 2003 11:29 AM
Hi! Great movie suggestions here. I checked out "Better Than Chocolate" yesterday and I loved it. I always like happy ending and really non-violent movies when it comes to relationship between women. Smile Anyone else have others? Okay, I'm going down the chick fliks list and going to rent the other movies to watch. ~_^

    all good movies
By missmandy on Saturday, April 12, 2003 12:40 PM
All good picks. I must admit, I got somewhat "squirmy" when watching Bound with friends who just rented it on a whim. This was before I felt confident enough to come out to them.
And with regards to Lost and Delirous, sometimes when I feel like I should stop paying for HBO, this movie or the second If these walls could talk comes on and it makes it all worth it.

    More lesbian movies
By NaAi on Monday, April 14, 2003 8:22 PM
Hey Jen, I'm glad you enjoyed Better than Chocolate! If you haven't seen Bound...go buy it!!! hehe...it's that good Wink

Miss Mandy...I know what you mean about HBO. I'm actually bummed that I don't have cable and access to the premium channels. I ended up renting the entire first season of Queer as Folk (the 2nd season is out and I need to go rent it!). I'm also hear a lot about other gay/lesbian shows/movies on HBO and Showtime. I also thought If these Walls Could Talk 2 was good. I liked the second story with Cloe Sevigny and Michelle Williams Smile

Anywho. Here is a list of lesbian movies I've seen. Not all are great, but worth seeing nonetheless...
Chutney Popcorn (starring Jill Hennessy from Crossing Jordan)
    High Art
    Go Fish
The Incrediby True Adventure of Two Girls in love (one of my faves - I fell in love with the black girl!!!)
    Fire (Indian Movie)
    Bar Girls
Show me Love (Subtitled and another fave)
    Treading Water
    It's in the Water
    The Truth About Jane
    Chasing Amy (another fave)
The Girl (hated it - the plot dragged!)
    Boys Dont Cry
    But I'm a Cheerleader
Claire of the Moon (pretty good)
    Gia

Movies I have yet to see..
    When Night is Falling
    Everything Relative

Ok, well, I hope you guys enjoy the movies I've suggested!

    sundance is cool too
By missmandy on Tuesday, April 15, 2003 2:21 PM
I saw a lesbian detective movie last week on Sundance called the Monkey Mask and the detective character is a really strong female who has sex when she wants and doesn't let B.S. get in her way, totally like the same kind of strong alpha male detective we usually see in movies. It was pretty interesting.

    FoxFire
    By ftk2003 on Sunday, April 20, 2003 11:53 AM
The sad part is I think I've seen a majority of the movies you've all listed. Everything Relative is a good movie, it's the lesbian Big Chill. I rented Foxfire on friday night. It has Angelina Jolie in it. I really enjoyed it.
If you want my opinion on a movie feel free to im/email me.

    Lesbian drama on Showtime
    By ftk2003 on Sunday, April 20, 2003 6:12 PM
I'm not sure how many of you read Girlfriends or Curve. They had an article awhlie back about Showtime coming out with a lesbian drama. They were thinking of naming it something like Earthlings. I was watching Queer As Folk last week and they had a miute feature on it. It will air in January of 2004.

    But I'm a Cheerleader
By techy on Friday, June 13, 2003 10:41 PM
I recently rented "But I'm a Cheerleader" and I liked it!! Smile It's very funny how the gay man tries to tease the black man. =P The main actress never really knew she was a lesbian till she went to "true directions" to fix her up. It was when she was cheerleading and she enjoyed the voluptious breasts that she thought it was very natural. I found that very funny. I went to the mall the next day and I just sat down on the bench. Then I noticed all these women passing by and they were wearing very skimpy clothes. I couldn't stop laughing that I also found myself staring at their breasts and remembering the movie!! No, breasts are not what attracts me. I rather want a girl with very small breasts.. hahaha... but anyways going back to the movie. It's very funny that a girl can get turned on by watching another woman's breasts. I never really pay attention to that, but awesome! ~_^ The movie is more than just finding her true direction... overall, good finale and entertaining!

    years ago....
By Lilith on Friday, July 18, 2003 8:37 PM
Years ago I watched a movie called "Heavenly Creatures". It was intriguing...I forget exactly who stars in the film. The story revolves around two girls who create an imaginary world populated by the clay figures they would crate in real life. There is a very sexual undertone and blatant lesbianism. Or maybe it was very sexual because I was rather young when I watched it, haha.^_^

By the way, Hello. I just happened upon this site tonight.
