Backstage
Take a sneaky peek behind the scenes!
CARLA: I love some of the music that's on the show and I think it's high time that I paid a visit to the Neighbours music man, Chris Pettifer. Chris is our Musical Director and he chooses what background music and songs appear on the show. He even composes most of them himself in his own studio. Maybe he can write a hit single for me... just kidding!
CARLA: Hi there Chris, or should I say, Music Man?
CHRIS: Actually Chris is just fine, thanks Carla.
CARLA: But, Music Man really suits you.
CHRIS: Carla, we've already gone through this.
CARLA: Alright then...Chris.
CHRIS: Now, what can I help you with?
CARLA: I'm here to write a Backstage article about you.
CHRIS: Wow, Carla. That's such an honour.
CARLA: Can I call you Music Man now then?
CHRIS: No. What's your first question?
CARLA: When did you start composing music for Neighbours?
CHRIS: Well, I began writing in small ways as far back as 1995, usually creating music for various 'on-screen' performances by cast. For example at one stage the characters
Danni,
Brett and
Cody decided to form their own garage band. So I had to create all the music for the band. That was fun because they were supposed to be really crap at it. So I made crap garage band music.
The 1st bit of score I did for the show was Jim Robinsons' death. I was commissioned to create a music library for the 1st time in 1997, a considerable amount of those pieces are still being used today.
