Legend QDI factory in China

On December 9, 1997, Legend QDI of Legend Holdings Limited, a listed red chip company in Hong Kong, hosted a tour of its motherboard factory in Huiyang, and R&D Centre in Shenzhen, China, by 26 computer media representatives from 19 countries internationally.

mfg4.JPG (18641 bytes)Lasting 5 days, the tour fully delivered on its promise¡ª"Come and see a Legend in the Making!" The international media were given the opportunity to see for themselves the manufacture of Legend QDI motherboards in China.

Founded in 1988, Hong Kong Legend Holdings Limited is an offshoot of the Beijing Legend Group, its parent organization.

2qlogo.gif (2261 bytes)Legend QDI motherboards obtained ISO 9001 quality assurance in 1995. At present, Legend QDI sells 300,000 to 350,000 motherboards per month which accounts to 10 to 15 % of the global market share.

The Legend QDI factory is based in the Legend Science and Technology Park (30,000 sq. m.) at Huiyang, China. The factory houses the main production line of Legend QDI motherboards and boasts advanced equipment such as the Fuji high-speed SMT machines and the Tyradyne-ICT machines. Strict quality control management and systematic operations made possible by well-organized, disciplined workers were an eye-opener to the foreign guests. In effect, the tour was an indication of what a large modern China enterprise can be in the present day context.

Legend QDI R&D centres are strategically based in Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Fremont, USA, in order to respond instantly to the newest developments. The media tour took in the R&D Center in Shenzhen this time. Here, 60 engineers participate in the development of hardware and software to ensure that the highest standards of technological development are maintained -- comparable to the best in the world.

A unique feature of the R&D Center in Shenzhen is that 2 different teams of specialized engineers are allocated to separate production lines for PCB and BIOS. The international representatives on tour were duly impressed. Their comments on Legend QDI's R&D methods and strategies revealed their admiration. Advanced technologies such as LogoEasy, SpeedEasy,  PowerEasy, ManageEasy, ThermoEasy and SecurityEasy which bring enhanced flexibility and convenience to the use of computers.

The tour comprised of 26 editors and journalists from international and local media. 70 % of the foreign journalists had come to China for the first time. The international editor of <<European Sources and News>> reacted very favourably to the tour. He said to our Technical Marketing Team, "I will take pictures of what I see in order to let my readers see the advanced levels of R&D as well as excellent production methods of the modern factory you have in China and of Legend QDI's admirable standards of technological development."

Some reporters from Mainland China and Hong Kong were pleasantly surprised to learn about the success of Legend QDI's motherboards in international markets. Formally, they were only aware of Legend as the top locally made computer in China, enjoying unparalleled success in the domestic market. Through contact with foreign journalists on the tour, they now know of the great strides Legend QDI has made in capturing a significant slice of the world market in motherboards. Very much impressed by this Chinese achievement on a global scale, the Hong Kong and mainland reporters expressed pride and admiration in their coverage of the tour.

By 2005, we hope to rank among the Fortune 500."

The foreign media representatives attending the tour came from USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Belgium, Malaysia and Singapore.
