The full range of Met Office archived data and services are available
to the research and academic community. These data may be provided
at preferential rates or even free of charge.
The Met Office policy on supplying data at preferential rates
to academia can be found in the Royal Meteorological Society journal, Weather Vol
50 No 2 pp59-61 (February 1995)

If your project is funded by a NERC grant, you are entitled to use
the meteorological data stored and managed by the British Atmospheric
Data Centre (BADC), their Web site address is www.badc.rl.ac.uk

Higher
education or charity funded projects |
|
If your project is not explicitly funded, but funding comes from
overall departmental funds at a higher education establishment or
from a registered charity, and the results of the work will be placed
in the public domain, then commercial data fees will be waived.
Derived products, such as frequency analyses and MORECS (soil moisture)
data, will be charged at 10% of the commercial rate. A minimum charge
of £80 applies. Please complete and return the academic
research data application form for a quotation.
|
|
Projects receiving funding from industry, commerce, government or
EU must anticipate paying for services at standard rates. We strongly
recommend that quotes are sought at the time funding is being bid
for. You will appreciate that allowance cannot be made for projects
where this has been overlooked. Where appropriate, and entirely
at our discretion upon receipt of a business case, the Met Office
may waive charges in return for partnership rights within the project.
Please complete and return the academic
research data application form for a quotation.

Unfunded
projects by individuals |
|
At the discretion of the Met Office's Chief Scientist, some funds
are available to support private individuals in conducting research.
Upon receipt of proposals, an adjudication will be made as whether
and what quantity of data should be released. Please complete and
return the academic research data application
form for a quotation.

A selection of data is available free of charge to any academic user,
subject to agreement to our restrictions.
