Renaissance Art (c. 1400-1600 CE)

The Renaissance shifts from the Medieval focus on heaven to a more earthly and human-centered one. Paintings of this era concentrate on humans and the material objects of this world. The artists turned to the ancient world and its culture, signifying the "rebirth" in Western art and culture of the 1500s. Naturalism and the replication of the visible world placed an importance on the innovation of mathematical perspective. Though culture and mythology were studied, religious subjects remained prominent, and the artists moved towards a humanization of religious themes.

The museum owns works by Giovanni Bellini and workshop, Hans Holbein the Younger and studio, Bernardino Luini, and the Circle of Anton Pilgrim.
