Browsing:

If you merely browse through the site reading, printing, or downloading information, such as consumer brochures or press releases, no personally-identifiying information will be revealed about you. During such a visit, only the following limited "navigational information" will be disclosed to OAG staff:

  • The name of the domain from which you accessed the website. For example, if you are connecting from an America Online account, the fact that someone who visited this website uses AOL as an Internet service provider would be known, but the individual e-mail address (i.e., the the portion of the e-mail address that proceeds the domain name) of the visitor would not .
  • The date and time any webpage on this site was accessed;
  • The website address (also called the URL) of the website from which any webpage on this site was linked. For example, if a visitor clicked on a "hyperlink" on the webpage from the website of the National Association of Attorneys General to reach this website, that fact is recorded. However, as discussed above, the actual identity of the individual visitor remains unknown.

This information is used solely for internal purposes. This data allows Office of the Attorney General staff to measure the number of visitors to the different sections of the website, and to help us make this website more useful to visitors. This website does not employ "Cookies," which could potentially allow a website to track information about browsing habits during multiple visits to a website.

In order to facilitate our ability to process complaints (whether submitted by postal mail, telephone, or electronically, via an online form) we ask that you provide us with important information about the nature of your complaint and how you can be contacted. No information about you will be revealed to Office of the Attorney General staff by filing an online complaint form beyond whatever data you voluntarily enter into the form and the "navigational information" discussed in the "browsing" section above.

The information you submit will be entered into an electronic database for use by attorneys, investigators, or other staff members involved in law enforcement or public policy development. In order to resolve your complaint, we may send a copy of your complaint form to the person or company about whom you are complaining. This information may also be shared with other government agencies enforcing consumer protection, competition, and other laws. In other limited circumstances, including requests from Congress or private individuals, we may be required by law to disclose information you submit.
