Production Projects

These are projects that are available to anyone at CCIS and/or things that we use consistently.

Public

  • Capture The Flag - A biquarterly contest where contestants win prizes by cracking into their opponents machines. (Also: [internal CTF notes CaptureTheFlag])
  • CTFPR - Public Relations to get the word out about CTF
  • IRC - CCS IRC server
  • PitCam - Web cam of Crew headquarters
  • NewWebServer - The New Crew Web server
  • BenderBot / UberBot - Helper bots for IRC
  • CrewBinDir - place on CCS for Crew shell scripts
  • Linux - Crew maintains twelve Linux machines that are aiming to be merged seamlessly into the CCIS environment.
  • CrewRT - Crew's own Request Tracker system
  • UserModeLinux - Usermode linux at CCIS
  • LDAP - Crew LDAP
  • Spong - Host/network monitoring system

Beta Projects

These are projects that we're working on and for the most part are not available to the public.

  • Newbies - An introduction to crew for newbies.
  • X10 - X10/PC control of the Pit police light and other devices
  • WinTermServer - A Windows Terminal Server for CCIS users
  • MachinesList - List of machines in and around 129 CN
  • IntrusionDetectionSystem - IDS Linux sensors built for Systems
  • AdZapper - an HTTP proxy that eats banner, popup, popunder, and other sorts of ads. Due to the death of the old WebMail box, the machine that hosted this project has been rebuilt. AdZapper will be back when a new host is obtained!
  • PitDiff - Track and monitor activity levels in the Pit, while generating useless statistics at the same time.
  • PitMacs - plans for the new macs in the Pit
  • FinkRepository - distributed OS X package building
  • BackUpServer - disk space to backup important stuff like our Subversion repositories

Concept-only Projects (i.e., Ideas)

Here are ideas that we've come up with but aren't available for testing yet.

  • DutchBoy - automatic removal of untrusted machines from a network, and their ability to reauthenticate
  • SerialServer - Making a tiny multi-serial-port secure machine
  • ReverseCTF - Similar to CTF, but in reverse.
  • EmailSolutions - Testing various anti-spam/anti-virus solutions on a separate mail server
  • LinuxOnXbox - Installing Linux on the XBox
  • LinuxOnPs2 - Installing Linux on the PlayStation 2
  • CrewSSLCert - Getting an SSL certificate for Crew (or Systems)
  • RSSFeeds - An RSS feed for the school
  • SharedComputing - A project to investigate the potential of Shared Computing for data processing in research projects

  • ThurNotes - notes on the old Crew web server
  • Subversion - notes on creating subversion repositories for Crew
  • CaptureTheFlag - Tool Creation Project. (NOT the contest)
  • WhosWho - how to edit the Crew Who's Who page
  • WebSiteNotes - notepad when working on thuringerwurst
  • CantusNotes - notepad for the Crew file server
  • SolarisBuildNotes - Instructions/pitfalls when building software on Solaris, if you have the appropriate priveleges.
  • We need a weekly SodaRun to keep us happy.
