WARRIORS OF THE SON

This is the very first album from Saint (after they changed their name from The Gentiles).  Though not quite as polished or commercial sounding as their next few albums, this one is still worth having for real Saint fans. Musically this album really rocks and the lyrics are of the "fire and brimstone" type.  I really like the crunch this album has!  The album was not originally released on CD and it was (you guessed it) one that I had to "special order."  The cassette that I purchased had three different "record" names (Quicksilver, Rotton and Morada) and there's also no lyrics on the inside cover. This album was re-released and remastered on the double CD release (in '97) and also was re-released by M8 with the original cover and four demo songs from The Gentiles 1981 demo. Best songs: "Legions of The Dead," "Warriors of The Son," and "Time's Wasting."  - Review by Mr. Saint Fan

The classic Heavy Metal band Saint is back again! This time with an exclusive special edition of their first album. Except the tunes from Warriors of the Son the cd also contains four bonus tunes from the demo which was recorded while they still were called the Gentiles. The booklet contains plenty of cool pictures with the bandmembers wearing full metal-armour. Musically the tunes on this cd is not in pair with Too Late For Living, but die-hard Saint-fans would still gladly add this one to their collections. Especially since it's limited to 1000 copies only.   References: Check it out if you are a die-hard Saint fan. - Review by Johannes

The new 20th Anniversary Edition of Warriors of The Son:

SAINT - Warriors of the Son

This is a reissue of Saint's first cd. They have rerecorded the whole album. Sound quality has been greatly improved which makes this much more enjoyable than the original. The drums also sounds much better now. As an extra bonus the band has also added two bonus tracks that weren't on the original. The bonus tracks are Killers And The Destroyers and The Reaper. Of these two, The Reaper is definately my fave. It has the classic Saint sound with heavy noncompromising metal and on top of it Josh Kramer's great screaming vocals. I'm glad they rerecorded this album. Saintfans will be delighted of the improved sound. Saint is surely back to stay and I really look forward to next studio release!   References: Saint fans will really enjoy this improved release. For those of you that aren't familiar with christian metal I would recommend Saint to all that like Judas Priest.  Thanks to Johannes at http://www.metalforjesus.org for this review!

Love W.O.S. !!!!!!!!  I so glad to see a great spirit filled metal band busy for the Lord again!  Keep up the good work of fine musisianship and Christian integrity!  Bill

Warriors of the Son - Armor Records, 2004  What a year! Five years after the release of "The Perfect Life," Saint storms back in 2004 with not one, but TWO new albums! Well, sort of... To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the band's debut album, "Warriors of the Son," the band went into the studio to re-record this slab of classic metal.  When I first heard about this project, I was immediately excited. While the original "Warriors" had some killer tunes, the production was lacking in many ways, due to lack of funds during the time of its recording. I've often found myself hoping for a live album just so that I could hear what the title track would sound like with better production - so this album was a welcome addition to my library! The Tunes: The album kicks off with the intense "Plan II." The first thing to strike me about the album is the guitars - up front, in-yer-face, close in the speakers - and incredibly crunchy and clear. It's obvious in the first 5 seconds that this recording is a zillion miles better than the original. Josh Kramer is in fine form, showing a mature and powerful voice. The dual guitar attack of Dee Harrington (that's right - he's back on this record!) and Jerry Johnson sounds amazing, and most importantly - the bass tone and mix are great! On the original "Warriors," my biggest complaint was always that there was too much bass in the mix, and the tone left something to be desired. On the new version, Rich Lynch's tone is great, and is mixed properly, which really brings out his talent and creative playing. The album storms its way through "Legions of the Dead" and "Abyss," making drastic improvements over the originals, before chugging into the title track. Ahh... this reminds me of why I got into metal in the first place. The instantly recognizable march of the drums, the guitars searing into a groove, and then, the DRUMS! Yes, the drums! Tim Lamberson (who provided lead vocals on "The Perfect Life") gives the song an excellent groove that wasn't there on the original, giving the song a feel reminiscent of Judas Priest's "Metal Gods." Combine this with the crunch and clarity of the guitars, a bottom end that pounds your chest, and Kramer's vocal acrobatics, and you've got one heavy juggernaut of a song that will leave your fist pounding the air.  Probably the most exciting part of this album is the fact that the band recorded two tracks that were written for the original release but never recorded. So here we've got two new, never-before-heard Saint tunes that are instant classics. The first, "Killers and The Destroyers," is the original arrangement of what went on to be "Destroyers" on "Time's End." One listen will show recognizable riffs, but the track is different enough to stand on its own. And then, the crowning moment of the new album - the incredible "The Reaper." This heavy track seems to sum up everything about Saint: Bible based lyrics, heavy guitars, dark riffs, and the amazing vocals of Josh Kramer. This track alone is worth the price of admission.  There are bound to be metalheads who own the original version of this album who are wondering if it's worth buying the new version - and the answer is a screaming YES!  Ian  Visit Ian's site at: http://www.christianmetalmayhem.com

TIME'S END

As you can tell from this website, Saint has been one of my favorite bands for years, and this album is truly one of the reasons. These guys have such an amazing classic sound, though they've been compared to other bands, I've not heard any that stand up to them. While many fans of Saint prefer Too Late For Living over this album, I like this album better. This second release from them is no doubt straight out of the 80's; layers of guitars, hammering guitar solos, bold song titles and an eye-catching album cover. On this record they center most of the songs around the book of Revelation, in other words "Time's End." Lyrically the songs are darker, yet very artistic in what they're singing about. You won't find any cheesy stuff on this album! Eight of the tracks are hard rockin' metal tunes and one ("Through You") is somewhat slower but has an awesome long guitar solo. This album was extremely hard to find and out-of-print for years, believe me, I searched for a copy on CD for a long time back in the 90's. I remember seeing it listed in catalogs from to ! Back around 1996 I traded 3 hard to find CD's with a guy just to get a copy of this album on CD. Fortunately, Saint remastered and re-released their first three albums on a double disc set back in 1997 (it too is out-of-print) and I was able to get all their albums on CD. M8 re-released Time's End with some bonus live tracks. I've listened to this album probably more than any other Christian metal album I own and honestly have never burned myself out on it - it's that great of an album! Best Songs In My Opinion: "Island Prisoner," "Space Cruiser" and "Through You." Review by Mr. Saint Fan

Saint fans rejoice! Finally we can enjoy Time's End on cd! This is an exclusive special edition of their 2nd album. Except all the tunes from Time's End the cd also contains nine bonus tunes that were recorded live at their gig at Cornerstone 1986! Favourite tunes are Through You and Primed And Ready. Musically it's not really in pair with their classic Too Late For Living, but it's not far from. What keeps this cd back is that some tunes are repetitive and not as variable as on Too Late For Living. But it got that cool Saint-vibe over it so I'm sure any Saint-fan will enjoy it and gladly add this cd to their collection. Especially since it's limited to 1000 copies only. Definately a cd I can recommend. I give it a 3+.  References: If you like heavy Heavy Metal you should definately check this out. Especially if you are into Saint's typical sound or are looking for a christian alternative to Judas Priest.  - Review by Johannes

TOO LATE FOR LIVING

Three years after the release of Time's End, here's what many thought was Saint's final album. The main differences between this album and Time's End is on TLFL is the drumming, a more commercial sound, and a little production quality. All of Saint's albums had different drummers and on this release the drumming is better and faster. Listen to TE, then listen to TLFL and you see there is also a cleaner, fuller sound on this record. While most of the songs are in the darker Saint style, you'll find a few not-so-dark songs like "The Rock," "On The Street" and "The War Is Over." Saint always had very artistic lyrics, so it's best to think about what they're singing to understand what message they're conveying and you'll see that there's actually a positive Christian message there. Something we had not seen from Saint shows up on this album, an instrumental called "The Return." On their first three albums Saint never really had a major commercial sound (like what you would have heard on the radio back then), they had their sound and that's what really set them apart. "Too Late For Living" was re-released as a single album with the original artwork. Although the actual original on Pure Metal is hard to find, the re-release is still quite easy to find and totally worth getting. In case you didn’t know you still can get all three of Saint’s first albums (plus The Perfect Life album) on a 2 CD set that is available by ordering directly through Saint, just click here: http://www.saintsite.com/ Best songs: "Star Pilot," "The Rock," and "The War Is Over." - Review by Mr. Saint Fan

Yes! Finally this classic has been rereleased! To you that haven't heard this album I would describe it at as Heavy Heavy Metal similar to secular metallers Judas Priest. The singer has a dark fitting voice that is easy to hear and the music is real Heavy Metal. One thing that stands out on this album is the heavy sound and the fantastic guitarsolos. There are also lots of crunch and hooks that stays in your head. But above all this is Heavy! As heavy as Heavy Metal can be. The lyrics are to the point and mostly taken from Revelation. Production is excellent and I don't think I can say a bad word about this release. It's one of those classics that you don't wanna miss.  References: A must have if you like Heavy Heavy Metal and especially if you are into Judas Priest. - Review by Johannes

THE BASEMENT TAPES

Hey Josh I am writing to you once again. You wanted everyone to be honest with you about your performance and the remake of Warriors. Well I have to tell ya when I want to hear Legions of the Dead I am going to pop in the first cd there is something about that crunchy recording that I like. It may because I have heard so much growing up that I don't want to hear any other way. I will still buy anything and everything you guy's put out. I recently have been playing the basement tapes you sent me on cd everyday back and forth to work. And that rift that Scott Sifton (I'm not sure that's the right spelling) plays in 1988 on turkey day WOW is that awesome it's short but that has to be one of the best and catchy tunes I've ever heard, and he is probably just goofing around!! Even though you guy's recorded onto a cassette tape I like to hear it raw even if you guys screw up it's fun hearing you guy's laugh. And when you did the song Cold Day on the cd I have I like it better on that one. I think you recorded again later and I think there is too much into it. I think just your voice and guitar is what is was meant to be for that song. I am excited to hear your side project with Scott I can't wait get it!!  Ok Josh keep going and don't give up. Your friend, -Darren

darren thank you for your input.  the cold day version you are refferring to is the excerpt from the audio book with dripping and sounds of torture etc.  in the play it is appropriate to have all of the sounds because there is a connection with the events but you are making a good point.  with outknowing what all of the other sounds are for it may leave the listener wondering..."what in the world is all that other noise?"   good point!   if you think that scott sifton tune is cool, wait till you hear what we are up to now.      i'll forward your letter to him.  he will be blessed to read it.  thanx darren..larerz..hjk

IN THE BATTLE

What people have been saying about the new CD (where no name is given, comment is annonymous)......

It's an excellent disc! I've really been wearin' it out! Some of my favorite's off of it are: "In The Battle", "Holy Rollin'" & "Ryders".  This disc is close to perfect, IMO. I give it a 9.5/10

Yep, it's a great album. I like The Choice and Armor On alot aswell.  Infact all the tracks are great. Classic Saint!

Just listened to Ryders. Thats one of the best songs on the album my  favorite is, Sacrifice.

Well, I got In The Battle today, and I'm currently rankin' it for the  first time. This is a pretty darn good metal disc. It just sounds SAINT.  "Ryders" will get stuck in my head for days now! I also like the title track a lot!  Every metal head needs this!

Got mine today! Classic SAINT!!!

I'm hearin' nothin', but classic Saint along the lines of "Too Late For Living" & "Times End" and I'm lovin' it!
I personally think that any Saint fan will enjoy this album, and that some of us who were not that big of fans for different reasons will reconsider Saint. All in all, I would say this is about a 9/10 release. Hopefully this will be a huge success and the guys will continue in this vein.

Hey, I just got the new Saint CD, In The Battle, and it SMOKES!!!! I can't believe what a good guitar player Josh Kramer is. I'm only on the 4th song and this is already one of my new favorites.  This is undoubtedly an excellent album!
Later bro ...  in Christ, Dave

--------------------------

I got to tell ya, I love your newest album.  I was pleasantly surprised how powerful, and how natural it sounded.  It had killer melodies (as expected), and solid songwriting.  Your singing was smooth and powerful.  Great old school metal/hard rock album.  I would rate it and 8.5 out of 10 on music. I would rate it a 4 out of 10 on album cover and booklet.  (the cover was spoiled in my opinion with that overlay picture of you guys instead of classy photography/artwork. Kinda cheesy, as my pals told me when I showed it to them.  The back cover looked great with the tank.  There were about 50 really bad lyric errors, but I saw on your website that you did notice them and were going to do a reprint).  And my final rating on the production/recording would be a 7 out of 10.  My main problems with the production would be the mix of the drums, where the kick is hard to hear, especially in parts with double bass.  And the rhythm guitars were a bit low in the mix in parts.  The solos did come out good, and so did your vocals. But at least it sounded a bit raw, and live, and not overly polished and protooled/digital sounding.   So it still pounds pretty good.  I would be tempted to remix it with a pro who can make it sound a bit cleaner and heavier. If it had a redone album cover without your pictures, I believe it could get mainstream metal attention in the large magazines, radio, and possibly record label attention.  As is, I kind of think the music/songs would be overshadowed by the album cover and the average mix.  Just being honest Josh.

Best songs on the album are:

1. In the Battle...great Saint modern classic...with true Saint lyrics
2. Here we Are...so catchy it sings in your head for days! Nice melodic guitar leads! Your verse vocals in that whisper tone rule!  Now that IS Saint!
3. Holy Rollin (despite the cheesy lyrics)...what a chorus melody. Unbelievably powerful. Nice groovin riff and guitar solo outro.
4. Star Pilot Return....true metal classic...and faithful to the original vision.
5. Ryders...nice duel leads! Good catchy powerful verse and chorus. I like you singing in the higher range like this track.

----------------------------

Song 1: In the Battle - The final rating is: 8.6  - When I first put this album on it caught me right away! It was a great laid back song compared to many albums. It seems that many bands start off with a high speed pounding song but Saint saved those for later. This was a great touch.  I love the lyrics in this one as it clearly indicates the spiritual battle that is taking place. I love ‘but his kingdoms going down..’ In the Battle is a catchy tune that any metal head should enjoy. What impressed me the most was Josh’s scream at the onset of the song! Wow! I was wondering if Mr Kramer could still flex his vocal muscles to reach such elegance and he did well! Great job.  It had a great pounding rhythm section and the solo complimented the laid back style. It was as if they knew Saint had returned while playing this song.  To get this song some more credence vote for it here:  HYPERLINK "http://www.crossrhythms.co.uk/radio/presenter.pl?p=jonbellamy" http://www.crossrhythms.co.uk/radio/presenter.pl?p=jonbellamy

Song 2: Star Pilots Return- The final rating is: 8.9- Talk about a return to the glory days!!! This ‘part two’ to the classic Saint tune on ‘Too Late for Livin’ is incredible.  The first time I heard it, I knew there was something familiar and yet different. It is a great song and can easily be compared to the old ‘Star Pilot’. This is a very good thing as it lets us know that Saint is truly back and they are aren’t holding any punches. This is song is ‘in your face’ from beginning to end. It was perfect song to follow ‘In the Battle’. It kicked in and instantly you could tell that the energy level was pumping. Good job.  I could tell each musician was ‘on par’ with this song and this type of touch is what makes a song great.

Song 3: Here we are - The final rating is: 9.0 - I have to admit, the first time I heard this song, I wasn’t too impressed but it is one of those songs that gets stuck in your head and the only thing you can do is well play it again. Now, I LOVE THIS SONG. I may go out on a limb and say this is the best song on the album. It is catchy and has an awesome feel. It is a slower mid_tempo number and usually my favorite song is high speed one but not this time. Of course, ‘Star Pilot Return’ and ‘Sacrifice’ gave it a good run.  I love the melodies and must say the vocals and guitars won me. Wow. Not all the numbers were the highest, but it shows that you don’t have to have numbers to be a great song.

Song 4: Sacrifice - The final rating is: 9.1 - First things first great message. Some people don’t realize the reason for Christ’s sacrifice. Back in Genesis, God made everything perfect, then man sinned and got what was deserved death. In fact, the entire creation is cursed (Romans 8, Genesis 3) because of man’s actions against God. This is why there is death and suffering in the world. But God gave a promise and exercised grace by sending part of Himself, God the Son, to take our place and die. This was the ultimate sacrifice and sign of love. God, laid down His life for His friends so that we may return to a right relationship with Him. All you have to do is accept Jesus. ‘Sacrifice’ has great builds in the song and relates the passion of Christ before the people. Quoting from the Gospels was a great touch as well.  This song, more than any other on this album, made me sit back and think. As I listened to the song, it was difficult focusing on the music (which was awesome and the number show it) because the words make such a great impact. Josh Kramer’s range and power lead this song. It is a vocalist masterpiece.  Guitar work and melodies perfect! Nothing else needs to be said!  I have to comment about the drum work is incredible and I have tremendous respect for Larry and the effort he put forth great job!   The only thing I wished was little better was the mix. It was good but I think it could have been better.

Song 5: Holy Rollin - The final rating is: 8.2 - Well there is always a song that people have to give lowest numbers to and it is this one for me. By no means is it a bad song it is very good and even scored in eights. This should be a big hint then if the worst song is still great, then the whole album is worth it go buy it now!  There was some catchy stuff to this tune _some vocals and guitars and one thing that I really liked was the rhythm section. It was a constantly pounding. This is another one of those songs that gets stuck in your heads.  The song itself is laid back and a good tune to cruise up the street with.

Song 6: Riders - The final rating is: 8.6 - By the time I reached this song, I was expecting a downfall. You know that time in an album where you want to put another disk in. But Saint delivered. They kept the song writing up and I really don’t have many comments on this song at least nothing negative. It scored about average for the album.  Great guitar work!! This reminds me of the good old days when the guitar was seen as artwork and those who do it did it well. This is another one of those songs that is laid back and meant for cruising. But remember the song ‘Too Late For Livin’ if you take cruise with this Saint album.  I guess there is one thing I would have liked better _ I would have liked the vocals a little louder. Josh sounded a little quiet for my taste I love the vocals loud like Halford belting some things out. Josh can do it so don’t be afraid to let that awesome voice soar.

Song 7: The Choice - The final rating is: 8.7 - Great intro! That was a nice touch. It leads you into the song right away and keep you into it. Another great lyrics song ‘God or the Devil' who will you betray. I never really thought of it that way. But it’s true!  The rhythm section is pounding again and made me want to crank it up when a song does that it is a good metal tune. I did think the solo was a little quiet. It was a good solo though! Great song and good musicianship.

Song 8: When - The final rating is: 8.6 - This was another average song of course average for Saint isn’t average for anybody! I really enjoyed the melody as well as the time changes. It was a good testimony that the band was working hard on the album, specifically with this tune. Not much else to say here plus I’m a bit anxious to tell you about the next tune.

Song 9: Acid Rain/Armor On - The final rating is: 9.1 - If you are going to finish out an album this is the way to do it! The intro ‘Acid Rain’ was awesome and wow _ the guitar work was intricate and technical. I like that kind of stuff! That’s what makes me proud of highly recommending this album!  Drum work was incredible especially during the break down. Keep it up! The emotion in this song ran high as well. I loved every second of ‘Armor On’. Great timing as well. This song is worth an honorable mention to being one of the best on the album.

Final Tally - 8.8 - Final Comments- I place this album up there with ‘Times End’ and ‘Too Late’! It is a little better than ‘Times End’ but just under ‘Too Late for Livin’. If you don’t have those two Saint albums to compare then you need to find them! Saint did a great job here and I highly recommend this album. I am proud of the bands convictions as well. In a day when great guitar work, great drumming and bass, as well as a phenomenal vocalist (who can do just about anything) are looked down upon as being ‘80’s metal’ they weren’t afraid to do it and do it well. This album is needed as it seems that many musicians are just trying to be popular instead of doing what they want. Saint did what they wanted and it is a great album for all time. There is nothing wrong with doing the best you can I want to encourage Saint as well as readers of this to remember this.  Also their convictions in Jesus Christ shine through as well. Many today have rejected Jesus and openly preach all religions but Christianity. Saint, though, has taken a stand and this should be commended.  Keep up the great work!  Bodi
