A.R.T. (Art Reference Terminal)
The Ball State University Museum of Art provides access to the collection
through the Art Reference Terminal (A.R.T.). This visual and educational
resource allows visitors to view all of the objects in the Ball State University
Museum of Art collection, including those in storage and on loan to other
institutions. The database includes basic documentation of the work consisting
of the artist/contributor’s name, nationality, birth and death dates, title,
date of execution, materials, size, credit line, and for most objects,
inscriptions, condition, provenance, exhibition records, and references. Many of
the records also include additional information about the work and a discussion
of the style or ear. Definitions of the terms found in A.R.T. can be found by
clicking on the button to the left labeled "Definitions of A.R.T." The
Ball State University Museum of Art on-line collection is an ongoing project and
subject to change according to continuing research.
While the goal of the Art Reference Terminal is to make the collection
accessible to a broad public, we are also obligated to protect the rights of
artists and their estates. Therefore, the catalogue and images are copyrighted.
To reproduce entries and/or images in any form, please send us a written
request, stating clearly which entries/objects(s) you would like to reproduce,
and the intended purpose and format of the reproduction.
Since the database from which the information is being pulled is currently
being changed over to a new software program, you might see changes in how the
information is formatted. Please bear with us during this transition period. We
are working daily to make this site as user friendly and informative as
possible.
