Pilgrimage to Haiti with Haiti Reborn in October 2004

CELEBRATE HAITI’S BICENTENNIAL ON OUR 2004 DELEGATION

January 1, 2004 will mark Haiti’s bicentennial as the first free Black Republic in the New World. Some people have already purchased their plane ticket to join Haiti in welcoming her 200 years of independence. Despite, the desperation that exists in the country, the Haitian people are eagerly looking forward to this historical moment. Many Haitians have high hope that 2004 will bring new light and a better Haiti for her children.

Friends of Haiti from all over the world will be traveling to Haiti to show their support. We hope that you too would like to be a part of this celebration. Some of you may have never visited Haiti before, yet the support and solidarity that you have shown to the Haitian people is exceptional. Haiti Reborn is interested in giving you the opportunity to be a part of Haiti’s celebration. We hope to take a Haiti Reborn Supporter delegation to Haiti in October of 2004. The trip will be a 14 days trip, with people arriving in P-au-P on October 3 and flying back to the state on October 16, 2004. This delegation will give you a chance to meet with some of our partner organizations in Haiti, along with visiting: Gonaives “The City of Independence”, and the model forest in Gros Morne Cap-Haitien to see the Citadelle Laferriere, a fortress built to combat any attack and prevent any re-invasion and further enslavement of the newly freed. The Palace of Sans Souci, situated inland as protection against sea born attack after independence; Central Plateau –visit Dr. Paul Farmer’s Zanmi Lasante, the only clinic that is treating HIV/AIDS patient with anti-retrovarial drugs in Cange. Jacmel: Meet the artisans and enjoy the arts, then learn to make your very own paper mâché mask. This delegation will not happen unless you have indicated to us that you are interested in coming and will probably invite one or two friends to come along with you. This can be a long lasting life experience vacation, so put it in your calendar for next year and spread the word.

Haiti Reborn will arrange for in-country lodging, transportation, translation, and set up all meetings to visit the various sites before your arrival in Haiti for $1,350 per participant. Participants will be responsible for their round trip plane ticket, lunch, and exit fees. We need a minimum of 12 participants before we decide to go ahead with this delegation. If you are interested in going to Haiti with us contact Rosemary Huddleston at 414-769-3405 or e-mail huddlestonp@archmil.org.
