Omidyar.net was developed internally using some of the best Open Source tools available.

We use Apache as our web server. Apache is one of the most widely-used open source projects out there, trusted and used by more web servers on the Internet than all others (open-source and commercial) combined.

We developed this software using Python, an incredibly-cool modern object-oriented interpreted language.

We use Quixote as our application framework. Quixote made it incredibly easy to get a complex site up and running in no time. And makes it easy to maintain.

We use ZODB as our database. ZODB is an object-oriented database that is a joy to use. It is used by many large sites as a part of the Zope application server.

Our visual design is based on Plone, a content management system built on top of Zope. Plone and its visual design is Copyright (c) 2000-2004 by Alexander Limi, Alan Runyan, Vidar Andersen.

Our server runs FreeBSD, a rock-solid BSD Unix-based operating system that has been the open-source server of choice for over 10 years.

We couldn't have developed omidyar.net without the hard work of the volunteers that work on and contribute to all of these open source projects. Thank you.
