Welcome to the omidyar.net Privacy Policy. We want you to fully understand how Omidyar Network Commons LLC ("omidyar.net" or "We"), collects, uses and discloses your Personal Information (as defined in this Privacy Policy). This Privacy Policy applies to the omidyar.net website (the "Site").

The Site is intended for individuals 18 years of age or older. By using, viewing, accessing or registering for the Site, you represent and warrant that you are at least 18 years of age. If you are not at least 18 years of age or do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, do not use, view, access or register for the Site.

By using, accessing, viewing or registering for the Site, you hereby expressly consent to our use and disclosure of your Personal Information in accordance with this Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into and subject to the terms of the omidyar.net User Agreement. This Privacy Policy is effective upon your first use or viewing of, access to, or registration for the Site.

Information We Collect

"Personal Information" means information that would allow a party to contact you, such as your name, phone number, mailing address or email address, including Submitted Information and Browsing Information.

Submitted Information. We collect Personal Information about you when you register as a user of omidyar.net, or submit information or requests to us (through the Site or otherwise). For example, during the registration process, we may collect Personal Information such as your email address. You may view and make changes to your Personal Information by logging in and accessing your profile by clicking on the My Account tab on the top of any page and then clicking on the Settings tab. We may, in the future, include other requests for Personal Information from you to help us tailor the Site for you and deliver personalized information to you or when you do things like purchase products or other services in connection with the Site.

We use your Submitted Information to send you emails that you have requested and for administrative purposes, marketing, customer service, delivery of products and services, and related activities. Your user ID (either your full name or email address) is visible to all users of the Site. If you do not supply your full name in your user profile, your email address may be visible to other users of the Site. In addition, all content that you add to the Site may be visible to other users of the Site. omidyar.net does not control, and is not responsible for, any information or content that is exchanged via email or as a result the use of the Site by you or any other user.

Browsing Information. When you use the Site, our servers (which may be hosted by a third party service provider) collect information automatically about your activities while using the Site, including the web pages you view, the times you view them, the search terms you use, information about the browser you are using as well as your IP address. An IP address is a number that identifies your computer's location on the Internet and may be automatically assigned to your computer when you use the Internet. Your Personal Information is linked to your Browsing Information. We may, in the future, collect other Browsing Information from you to help us tailor the Site for you and deliver personalized information to you.

We use this Browsing Information for internal purposes such as to help understand how the Site is being used and to improve it, for systems administration purposes, and for other information to help you navigate through the Site, such as showing you your recently viewed pages. We also use "cookies" to enable you to specify unique preferences and for authentication purposes. A cookie is a small amount of data that is sent to your browser from a web server and stored on your computer's hard drive. For example, omidyar.net's cookie currently contains your display preferences, a list of pages you have visited which are displayed in your footprints list, and a session ID for user identification.

Disclosure of Personal Information

Except as otherwise noted below, we do not disclose Personal Information to third parties. Although we may disclose aggregated information about the use of our Site, that information does not contain Personal Information. However, we may disclose Personal Information as follows: with our contractors and service providers in order to maintain, enhance, or add to the functionality of the Site; to third party product and service providers to provide products or services you've requested; and, to marketing and advertising partners who work on behalf of or with omidyar.net. We will transfer information about you if omidyar.net is acquired by or merged with another company. In this event, omidyar.net will notify you before information about you is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy. In addition, if omidyar.net becomes part of another organization, including without limitation, by merger, change of control, sale of assets, or other acquisition, the acquiring organization will obtain and have access to the Personal Information collected by omidyar.net. Finally, we cannot ensure that your Personal Information will not be disclosed to third parties due to reasons beyond our reasonable control. omidyar.net may disclose Personal Information when required by law or under the good-faith belief that such disclosure is necessary in order to conform to applicable law, comply with subpoenas, court orders or legal process served on omidyar.net, to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims, and to protect the property or interests of omidyar.net, its agents and employees, personal safety, or the public. Under such circumstances, omidyar.net may be prohibited by law, court order or other legal process from providing notice of the disclosure, and omidyar.net reserves the right to not provide such notice in its sole discretion.

Updates

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as our services change. If we update this Privacy Policy, we will post the updates on this page. Unless otherwise provided, the revised terms will take effect on the date they are posted. Once such changes become effective, your continued use of the Site will signify your acceptance of the new Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy, or any revised Privacy Policy, your sole and exclusive remedy is to discontinue using the Site.

Member ID and Password Control

You are responsible for all actions taken with your user ID and password. Therefore, we recommend that you do not disclose your password to any third parties. If you choose to disclose your user ID or password or personal information with third parties, you are responsible for all actions taken with your account. If your password has been compromised for any reason, you should immediately change your email address or password on the omidyar.net Site.

Security

omidyar.net uses a firewall to limit inbound traffic on servers hosting the Site and administrator-level access to the Site hosted on our servers relies on secure shell encryption.
