PLEASANTON As an independent entrepreneurinthe East Bay, Karen Ferriera knows how critical networking is to the success of her business.
As a woman, she has found that learning some of these necessary skills can be hard to come by.
Thus is the reason Ferriera formed The Express to Success Network in Pleasanton, which is a business women's
network group affiliated with the American Business Women's Association.
"I wanted to provide an environment where women can come and support other women in a business environment," she said. "It's a place where women can share ideas with one another about how to gain more clientele."
The group meets on the third Thursday of each month at the
Four Points Hotel, 5115 Hopyard Rd. The regular meeting starts 6:30 p.m. For newcomer's there's an information session at 6 p.m.
"The women come from all different backgrounds with all different kinds of point of views," Ferriera said. "A lot of times the energy is just bouncing off the walls."
Each meeting typically features a guest speaker with
networking opportunities before and after. Some of the members set up tables in the conference rooms, which allows them to hand out information about their business to other members.
Also each month there is a theme, which allows members associated with it to speak up to 60 seconds about their business or service.
The club opened
last December, and currently has more than 50 members. The club has members who come from throughout the Bay Area, including San Leandro, Hayward, Lafayette, and San Jose, Ferriera said.
By the end of the first year, Ferriera hopes to grow the number of members to 100.
Guests are free, and membership is $100 per year. There is no age restriction
to join the group, but no men are allowed.
