Ithaca's 'Mr. Radio' is retiring

ITHACA -- For four decades Tom Joseph has been known to listeners in Ithaca as "Mr. Radio." Joseph, who is director of operations at Eagle Broadcasting, is retiring from radio after 43 years.
Joseph's radio career started in 1962 at WHCU AM/FM which were owned by Cornell University at the time. He is currently in charge of operations at WYXL-FM, WQNY-FM, WTKO-AM and WHCU-AM.
According to Joseph, 62, "It's time to let someone else get up in here."
'Beaner and Ken' to syndicate in Alabama

SYRACUSE -- 95X's new morning duo, Guy "Beaner" Patton and Ken Heron, are returning to their old stomping grounds in Alabama. Well, sort of.
The pair will continue to do their show live from Syracuse, but are expected to begin simulcasting in Birmingham on 107.7 Ths X (WRAX), the station the pair got their start on in 1998.
Peter Cavanaugh to speak at Lemoyne

SYRACUSE -- Peter Cavanaugh, whose book Local DJ chronicles his radio career including his start at WNDR in Syracuse, will be in Central New York this week for two events.
Cavanaugh will speak on "The Irish Nature of Rock 'n Roll" at Lemoyne College at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday and will appear at a book signing on Thursday at the Orange Book Store from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Michael Fields leaves WCNY

SYRACUSE -- The head of WCNY is leaving after four years at the helm.
In a statement released by WCNY, the public broadcasting outlet said that they "have reached a joint decision and have mutually agreed to end their affiliation" with Michael A. Fields, president and chief executive officer.

Ryno heads to Florida

FT. MYERS, FL -- It didn't take long for former 95X (WAQX) air personality Ryno to land a new gig.
He's headed to Ft. Myers, Florida where he'll take on the midday shift and assistant program and music director duties at New Rock 99X (WJBX).
Ryno moves up in terms of market size (Ft. Myers is ranked #66 in the country versus Syracuse at #79). He'll be looking to help WJBX's ratings which place the Beasley station tied for 15th place in the market.
Dave Coombs returns to TK-99

SYRACUSE -- It's the return of 'Gomez and Dave' to mornings on TK-99/105 (WTKW/WTKV).
Dave Coombs, who last year left Syracuse for a Salt Lake City sports station, has decided to return to Central New York's Salt City to pair up once again with Glenn 'Gomez' Adams.
"I’ve returned to get back together with Gomez and marry my girlfriend," says Coombs. He adds, "I’ve lived in Syracuse longer than anywhere else in my life, I missed it, and I consider it my home."
With the move, Pete Michaels and the show's producer, Logan, have left the station.
95X debuts new morning show

SYRACUSE -- After two months without a morning show, Syracuse active rock station 95X (WAQX) welcomes a new local morning team to replace Howard Stern's syndicated show which the station dropped in late December.
Guy "Beaner" Patton and Ken Heron, who were last paired together on the air in Birmingham, Alabama, aren't looking to duplicate Stern's show, instead opting for more shtick and less shock.
WAER's New Age Morning host dies

SYRACUSE -- Kevin Hoverstad, a longtime Jazz 88 (WAER) volunteer, died on January 31 less than two years after receiving a lung transplant.
Hoverstad, who was Dean of Academic Administration at Bryant & Stratton College, hosted WAER's Sunday morning program New Age Morning for nearly 20 years. He was 45.

Lite 105.9 raises over $27,000

SYRACUSE -- Lite 105.9 (WLTI) and WSTM-TV 3 teamed up this week to raise money for a worthy cause. Tuesday's Lite Loves Kids Radiothon raised $27,182.24 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of CNY.

Prime Time Radio coming to Syracuse

SYRACUSE -- WRVO is bringing the syndicated public radio program Prime Time Radio to Syracuse for a live taping in May.
The free event will be held Wednesday, May 4 at Drumlins on Nottingham Rd. The doors open at 9 a.m., the show itself gets underway at 10 a.m. Reservations are required as seating is limited.
Prime Time Radio is hosted by Mike Cuthbert and is heard each Sunday morning at 7 a.m. on the WRVO stations.
