The Sims. In his caffeinated frenzy, Thompson berzerked: "The sex and the nudity are in the game. That's the point. The blur [over Sims' nonexistent genitalia] is an admission that even the `Ken and Barbie' features should not be displayed. The blur can be disarmed. This is no different than what is in San Andreas, although worse." War on Modders: Everyone gone nuts? http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2005/7/23/43217/4928 The previously M-rated game "Grand Theft Auto" has hidden sexual content which was disabled in the shipped version. A modder (in this case: "person who modifies or extends a game through software hacking") enabled this feature. A so-called "sex scandal" evolved from this, with the game being X-rated and Take Two (distributor of GTA) and some political entities calling for strictly forbidding modding. My question to you: Have they all gone nuts? Corpse Disposal Made Simple http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2005/7/23/164314/637 *Disclaimer*  Murder is against the law. Do not commit murder. This boldly contradicts what many 'unificationists' from Taiwan's opposition parties are saying on the island following the recent high-level visits by opposition party candidates to China. And yet, the threats are real. The Judicial-Electoral Comedy Show http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2005/7/22/141411/786 RPI's argument that "copy" does not necessary mean "exact copy" is one example of mincing and then stretching the meaning of words beyond reason. Nobody does farce like California does farce. John G. Roberts, Jr. Nominated to Succeed Sandra Day O'Connor http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2005/7/20/103731/789 As reported by several sources, Bush has nominated John G. Roberts, Jr. to replace Sandra Day O'Connor as Associate Justice on the Supreme Court, the highest federal court in the United States. While he's not as ardently conservative as some of Bush's previous judiciary nominees have been, his short case history leaves him cast in a slightly unpredictable light. He led the anti-trust case against Microsoft and supported the law criminalizing flag burning. He argued against Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court case that incepted the legality of abortion, but has publicly stated that the ruling is "the settled law of the land", and he won't try to change it because of his personal viewpoint. Other instances prove fairly odd, ranging from civil rights of 12-year-old girls with french fries in the subway to clergy-led prayer at public school graduations. Mary Poppins On Speed http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2005/7/21/215034/205 Mary Poppins got it right when she sang the famous song Let's Go Fly a Kite, but she made a mistake in getting more airtime with her umbrella than with the kite. Bad move. Now you can make amends by recreating famous scenes from the Disney classic with the aid of giant kites! Fractals 101, Part 1 http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2005/7/19/22140/9950 Fractals are well-known in rave art, popular culture and even the occasional movie. But what are they, where do they come from and what are we going to do with them now they are here? Transhumanism & The Modern Day Transcendentalists http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2005/7/15/215238/231 When Henry David Thoreau became a part of the Transcendentalist movement,  he intended to change society. Thoreau envisioned his movement gaining momentum, eventually becoming a large enough force to have an impact on people's lives. Transcendentalism was, however, a short-lived movement, dying out with Thoreau's death in 1862. Humanity's struggle to free itself from the chains of society, it seemed, had died soon after its birth. Christian Leader Given Nine Years for Molesting Children http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2005/7/16/45956/0307 On Thursday 14 June Graham Capill, the former leader of minor New Zealand political party Christian Heritage, was convicted of sexually abusing three little girls aged between 8 and 12. He was sentenced to a total of eleven years, including nine years in jail, for rape of a girl under 12, indecent assault, and unlawful sexual connection with the three girls.
