This was the first of the Carrowmore tombs I saw 'in-the-flesh' and I was gobsmacked! What an incredible site the 15m ring of boulders makes. This is very accessable and very visible from the road - you really can't miss it as you drive by.
There is nothing left of the internal structure now, so there is just what appears to be a stone circle. On the east side there is an opening apparently made during a secondary Bronze Age phase of use.
It stands on the edge of a quarry, the spoil of which covers two other tombs.
0.7km (ENE) is a passage tomb at Clover Hill. 0.5km (NNW) is a passage tomb at Carrowmore. 8.9km (N) is a round tower at Drumcliff. 1.8km (N) is a standing stone at Tobernaveen. 9.2km (N) is a wedge tomb at Coolbeg.
