Get a front-row seat to everything from the latest action thriller to your latest family vacation — with dramatic sound and high-definition video — all from DVD Player 4.6 for Tiger. “This rocks big time,” wrote Bob LeVitus about iMac DV. “You don’t have to buy an extra TV and DVD player for the kid’s room, den or even the kitchen.”

The DVD Player

If you have an Apple-supplied DVD-ROM drive installed in your computer — such as an Apple SuperDrive — you can use the Apple DVD Player application to play DVD-Video discs. You can view the DVD-Video disc on your computer’s display or on a television connected to your computer using the right cables. You can even watch high-definition video if you’ve installed the Apple DVD Player 4.6 Update. In fact, DVD Player 4.6 lets you play DVD Studio Pro 4 authored HD DVDs from discs and hard drives.

Featuring numerous brand-new capabilities, the Apple DVD Player lets you control your viewing experience just as if you were using a full-featured remote control with a stand-alone DVD player. You can access the movie chapter by chapter, freeze the action, zip forward and backward through the movie, play in slow motion or step through the movie frame by frame. DVD Player lets you bookmark favorite moments so you can return to them later. It even remembers where you stopped viewing a DVD and gives you the option to resume play at that point.

DVD Player remembers

In addition, the Apple DVD Player lets you resize the viewing window, tuck it into the background or bring it to the front, all with the speed and performance benefit of Mac OS X. And when you minimize your movie, it continues playing in the Dock.

You can fine-tune the audio with the new equalizer, which offers 10 individual sliders and four presets. So you can really pump up the bass during action movies and feel the explosions in your bones — powered subwoofer highly recommended. Or if you’re watching a movie on a plane, you can dial down the bass and bump up the mid-range so you can hear every bit of the sparkling dialogue.

DVD drives are available in Power Mac G5, eMac, PowerBook G4, iBook, iMac and Mac mini computers. Apple DVD players can play DVD-Video disks — including the latest hit movies, classics and educational titles — with a great picture and full stereo sound. If you have a surround-sound system, you can even hear six-channel AC3 sound. You can also play DVDs you make yourself in iDVD, DVD Studio Pro and other programs.
