Lombard

Lombard can refer to many things:
A member of the Lombards - the Germanic tribe that dominated Austria, parts of Switzerland and most of Northern Italy from the 5th century to the 8th century, and whose cultural and linguistic heritage is still noticeable in Italian Lombardy, the Swiss Canton Ticino/Tessin and three valleys of the Swiss Canton Graubünden, in addition to some minor neighbouring areas.
The extinct Lombardic language - a Germanic language spoken by the Lombards.
The current Lombard language - a Romance language spoken in parts of Switzerland and Northern Italy, and divided into Eastern Lombard and Western Lombard.
The Lombard League - the alliance of some 30 cities in Northern Italy which existed off and on between 1167 and 1250 to counter Fredrick I and Fredrick II.
Lombard rhythm - a musical rhythm, especially used in Baroque music.
