The flowers have been sent, but a surprisingly bitter response. Jack not only ignores the letter, but he blames Take Two for being involved some way or another. He also claims that these flowers are mocking him and his beliefs. This delusional man is twisting an act of kindness into something it's not for his own, selfish agenda.

Was having some elderly dude trash your flowers and credit a video game company for it really worth your cash?
As much as I dislike this man, I feel that the gaming community is unable to properly rebutt him. I recently heard an interview with a podcaster and the podcasters sounded utterly ignorant (a basic economics class would have helped them) and only helped Thompson seem rational.
I think people need to realize that part of what he is saying is right. We need people like him to keep checks. I've been playing violent games since I was a kid. I like to think I'm fairly well-adjusted and a fairly decent person. For a long time, industries have regulated themselves. However, there have been times where industries failed (usually because of classic cases of market failure) and the government had to step in to protect the interests of the citizenry. The FCC is an example of such an institution. However, the ESRB is funded by the gaming industry and failed when it did not immediately change the rating of GTA from M to Adult when the Hot Coffee Mod was discovered (not that it makes much of a difference). Thing is, the programmers of GTA or whatever were prolly having a ball and put this in for kicks. Unfortunately, that irresponsiblity of the coders and therefore the company (they fucking dropped the ball, really) has left them in a perilious position. I believe that Jack Thompson has the power to do very little, but he can make lots of noise, and he can make lots of noise to the people who run the government. I don't think we'll see anything but amusing antics from him.
I think parents should keep an eye on what their kids are doing. To that end, there are laws that don't let minors buy violent video games (in Ontario, Canada, you must be 17 or older to buy M-rated games). That's good. However, if your kid has difficulty differentiating video games from reality or is going through a lot of trouble at school and is taking it out by playing video games, I think you as a parent need to sit down with him or her and work things out. There is no stopping the stream of media that will hit our kids now. Before it was movies and cartoons that kids were imitating and now it's video games, we, as a society have pulled through the movie-related issues and soon there will be a lot more education surrounding video games at all age levels.
And seriously, how many deaths related to video games is he purporting to have occurred? Weigh those that occur with unaffliated gun crimes, or deaths by other sources. Just another way of purging the gene pool. :p

There's only one place where one bad apple spoils the bunch - thats in apples. Everywhere else, it's just one bad situation.
And Jack Thompson has no power related to the real problem. He's just bluster. We all know we shouldn't give violent video games to kids. But so often it's the parents doing it. And Jack has no power to control that area.
Till he's finally as burnt out as charcoal, let's just laugh at this bluster. And we'll get through it.

This is like punching someone in the shoulder and then calling them an asshole when they tell you to stop. This is getting really old, but people are going to keep doing it because they think they're on some kind of crusade for gamer's rights. I know it's been said a million times, but just ignore the guy.
You have to give Jack credit for maximizing a niche market and keeping his name in the press, but why give that attention whore what he craves?

What should be done is a campaign to raise money and start a fund against intolerance... To prevent children from growing up to be like him.
IMHO it would be a good cause. Raise money, create a fund, and use it to pay for tolerance education in schools and communities.

That's quite an accusation there methinks. Funny how there is no proof, I mean, look at the Oakland, California one, he even mentions that the trial started yesterday.
