  17. Process Explorer is an excellent, excellent program. I have used it for years and it consistently has been able to help me diagnose problems that an otherwise would have me stumped on a plain-vanilla Windows box. This is definitely worth downloading.

Ditto. Since I've become a member of digg, I've found so many useful tools, and know about so many things I wouldn't have otherwise. This one is especially good, because there was always a process that would flip out and I would have no idea what it was. Now PE tells me what it is instead of the crappy windows one.

Run it, then click "options" then "replace task manager", no hack necessary (works on the older versions too).

Don't you think that is what got them in trouble with Media player and IE? I mean come on, it's a monopoly when you get something included isn't it? I guess I just don't see it that way, I get a "bose" or "whatever" stereo in my car, and MOST of the time, you can' t just "delete it" unless you're ordering a whole car to your specs... what's the difference?

  39. I find ProcX to be more useful at times, particularly when killing processes like malware that make it difficult to kill them, or give you the mysterious "Access Denied" error message, even if you're using the main admin account. I just love the different "levels" of killing ProcX offers (normal, thread injection and process crash). And just like Process Explorer, it's freeware.

  43. Nice app in general, but definitely not worth changing the Task Manager -- ProceXP itself consumes more than 30MB of memory and 20+% of CPU usage on my 1.8GHz machine. And when most of your machine has hanged, it'll be a lot more troublesome to bring up ProceXP than the Task Manager.

For those with CPU usage problems set Opacity to Opaque and make sure that the processxp is set as a high priority.

Thanks for that info. I was looking through a few of them until I saw your post. I don't know how to display it as default, but you can save the column set and load it later if doesn't load by default.
