The fruits of indoor citrus trees, such as this lemon tree, provide a burst of color
Citrus trees bring color indoors during winter
As outdoor plants lie dormant through winter, indoor plants can give life to a room.

"Here in Ohio -- with our gray, cloudy winters -- it does help to have a little green indoors," said Lynette Higginbotham, director of operations and sales for Oakland Interiorscapes, which provides plant care for central Ohio businesses and homes.

Not only do plants provide color, they also absorb toxins in the air from synthetic carpets and paints, Higginbotham said.

GROWING CONCERNS

NATURE

Number of short-eared owls in Ohio remains cyclical
I never tire of watching the short-eared owl in flight. Its erratic wingbeats and flopping, up-and-down manner are so unusual that the bird can be identified from quite a distance.
