Butler helps lead Ohio State past Michigan
Updated: 9:40 PM
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Jamar Butler scored a career-high 20 points to lead No. 19 Ohio State to a 94-85 victory over No. 22 Michigan tonight for the Buckeyes' first win at Crisler Arena since 2002.

The victory moved Ohio State into a three-way tie with Michigan State and Illinois for second place in the Big Ten. The three teams trail Iowa by a half-game.

Chris Hunter's three-point play gave Michigan a 73-70 lead with 8:45 to play, but Ohio State (17-3, 6-3) answered with a 14-2 run to go ahead for good.

Eight skiers found with high hemoglobin levels
Updated: 9:49 PM
TURIN, Italy -- Eight Olympic cross-country skiers, including two Americans, were suspended after they were found to have excessive hemoglobin levels, the International Ski Federation announced Thursday.

The suspensions last five days from the day the tests were administered. The U.S. Ski Association said on its Web site that tests were taken Wednesday, meaning the athletes will be barred from competition until at least Monday.

That would keep the skiers out of the first cross-country events of the Olympics -- the men's and women's pursuit on Sunday.

Parents and students celebrated in May when an operating levy passed for South-Western schools, but the district still faces a budget shortfall.
Sweeping layoff plan imperils teachers
Job cuts hashed out in secret; early retirements also in mix
The South-Western school board secretly developed a plan to eliminate hundreds of employees and institute a multimilliondollar teacher buyout to deal with a budget shortfall, documents show.

Close to 10 percent of the district's 1,500-strong teaching staff could go at the end of this year, provided the buyout is successful in luring enough employees to leave their jobs voluntarily.

It's a mohawk affair: Sly Stone
Legends new and old
Springfield native John Legend took new-artist honors, an American Idol winner claimed two surprising wins and U2 walked away with the song of the year trophy.

But nothing during the 48th annual Grammy Awards last night in Los Angeles surprised anyone more than the appearance, brief as it was, by missing-in-action Sly Stone.
