Editorials

Editorial cartoon by Jeff Stahler

Editorial

Measure for accuracy
State's standards for assessing schools could use a little tweaking
The Hilliard City School District's frustration is understandable: Because its growing population of limited-English and disabled students isn't improving enough on state standardized tests, the district's effectiveness rating on the state report card has dropped, even though its students overall perform as well or better than those in less-diverse districts that were given higher ratings.

Editorial

Paradise could be lost
Indonesia must ensure 'Garden of Eden' remains protected

Op-ed column

George F. Will: Senate's 'stoplight' is in national interest
The Senate, which fancies itself the world's most exclusive club, has its Sir John Hawkins.

Policy for Letters

The Dispatch welcomes letters to the editor from readers on a broad range of topics. Short letters (200 words or less) have the best chance of being published. Typed letters are preferred, and all may be edited. Each should include a signature, address and daytime phone number. Specify a date if there’s a reference to a previous article or letter.
